I heard that Fendi is issueing out new baguettes for its 10 year anniversary.
Can someone with a WWD membership post the full article here?
Thanks.
here's the article cloud9...
More than ripples, Silvia Venturini Fendi triggered a wave in the accessories world when she launched the Baguette bag in 1997. Ten years later, the designer, who isn't a fan of retrospectives, has revisited the spotlight again on Fendi's runway today.
"I wanted to move forward and I think this is the best way to celebrate a bag that really changed the course of things when black nylon backpacks were all the rage," said Fendi.
The linear shoulder bag, small enough to be tucked under the arm, has sold more than 800,000 pieces to date and helped trigger the whole "It" bag and waiting list phenomena. Moreover, with its myriad variations — the Baguette came in everything from fur to patent leather to ponyskin — the bag catered to all tastes, becoming a collector's item.
For spring, Fendi has designed the bag in four sizes, from small to extra large, and many feature a detachable strap that turns them into clutches, while the larger version can be transformed into a messenger bag. As for materials, they span the gamut from python to plasticized leathers, often with lavish embellishment.
