Finding Your Perfect Red Lipstick

I wear colour on my eyes with certain red lipsticks because I have olive toned skin that can pull off colour very well. I like pale, petal pink on eyes with red lipstick and gold eyeshadow works really well too. It depends on the type of red you're using.

Thanks to Mrs. Gwen Stefani, lately I have had the yearning to buy some red lipstick... It's so womanly, and is such an easy way to spice up your look when you're low on time.

They say that everybody can wear red lipstick, it just depends on what type (for example, orangish reds, or blue-ish toned reds).

Has anybody found their perfect red? And if so, what's your complexion/hair color? Maybe we could all help one another out.

I am always looking for my perfect red.

I have red-brown curly hair with caramel and gold highlights and blue-green eyes with sort of a dark peachy-bronze complexion.

I look best in blue-reds... The closest I've found it Russet by Prescriptives. But it smells kinda funny, so I dont like it. hehe

I think I look best in brown-reds. Most reds look pink against my warm skintone or make me look like J-Lo in the movie Selena. My favourite is MAC Retro  .

I am fair to med skinned, dark blonde hair. I love Intriguing from Prescriptives and Transiberian from Nars.

So funny I post this...

Well, y'all have seen me, and my favorite red is Chanel Hydrabase in Premier red

The only red lipstick I have ever used is Chanel Russet Moon. I don't know if they still make it, but it was that perfect sexy deep red.....

I love all of those lip gloss/laquer things...

I've seen certain images that have made me want a perfect red...but I can't find anything close at all. :(

Everytime I've tried red lipstick, I end up looking like a hooker.

Yeah, that or like I'm playing dressup or like I've come in a time machine from the eighties...

:sigh:

the best red lips I've seen were for a recent MiuMiu fashion show!
Loved it!
There are many girls who really like the MAC Viva Glam ones!

Of all things, Avon's 24-Hour-Red is perfect for me! One of my co-workers sells Avon stuff in her off-time and somehow ended up with this lipstick leftover in one of her shipments. Nobody who had made orders with her claimed it, so I told her I'd buy it off her to try, as the color looked appealing in the tube, and for $4 you can't go too far wrong. It turns out to be absolutely the best red I have ever worn...very 1940s and works with my bizarre sallow skintone.

I have decided yellow undertones to my skin and have dyed auburn hair (naturally medium brown) and greeny-hazel eyes.

I use Lancome Rouge Attraction lipstick in Vibration shade. I think it would be called a blue red. Anyway, it works for me.

The thing to do is keep trying different ones or go to a counter where you can get some expert assistance. That's what I did because I'm not very good at colour. I know when I see it on whether I love it or not but even the ones I love I never would have chosen to try because I can't "see" it.

Yes... I always tell myself, GET TO A COUNTER! I keep puting it off, but it needs to be done. I'm horrible at lip colors, so I definitely need assistance.

When I did that at MAC, I couldn't find anything that looked any good on me. They didn't have the sort of red I wanted, which is a dark red with orange or brown undertones. All theirs seemed keyed to cool skintones.

Granted, I don't like the "help" I have gotten at the MAC here in Kansas City. Both times I have asked for eyeshadow reccomendations, I have walked out of there looking like I could scare a clown. Their makeup artists are very pleasant and like to play, but don't have a good eye for what people might want to look like on an everyday basis.
