another thing i love....frames!...

in all forms...
i find it fascinating to see which frames people choose, what size, what colour, the thickness or thinness...
whether they're framing photographs or fabrics or paintings....or even mirrors...
how they arrange them, if they hang them or prop them against the wall, if they stand alone or are crowded with other frames on a wall...

so here we go...

Everything here looks really beautiful:heart:

...what does everyone think about framing pictures from magazines, or posters of artwork and not the art itself? I think doing so is generally perceived as really cheesy and unreal, but there are so many great pictures that I'd love to put up, and frames really polish the look off. Has anyone seen this done in real life without it looking really dreadful?

i have actually done this..:ninja:..

people always assume they are original photographs (well..they are...just in magazine form!)..
i used thick silver frames....and everyone comments on how unusual the photographs are...
i used portions of the editorial photographs rather than the entire photograph....so it is like little pieces of the original photos....and somehow that way i think it looks less 'cheesy'....but i suppose at the end of the day that's a pretty subjective claim to make...

some would probably hate it....i think it works...

I love it when a person uses mide matting when framing small photos. I have no idea why, maybe it just draws my eyes toward the photo better.

I'm obsessed with framing my photographs & putting them in grid format

I frame my old vinyl. I can then change records when I need a change or want to listen to the album.

adorefaith: the way you do it, it probably looks lovely:flower:

I just really love magazine pictures and paintings that I'll never be able to own, even if I won a $3 million lottery. But I guess I've been scarred by this one house I went to, where he had an Edward Hopper print in a really fancy frame with little lights attached, so you could see it in a dim room...seemed a bit pretentious I guess.

good idea for a thread adore!
it can be a great way to personalize a room and really make a wall "pop" :p

sometimes it can look busy/cluttered...
but i tend to think that it just shows a lot of personality and can be very revealing ^_^
in a good way.. ;)

Gorgeous. I have been thinking about putting up some prints gallery style on the wall facing my bed. And this thread has been a great inspiration!

very inspiring indeed! i want to start collecting frames again. i'm particularly interested in the frame featured 2nd to the last picture. on post # 1 from aus vogue living
