She's quite a generic Indian girl. Sorry but there is really no big deal about her. I've seen loads of much, much prettier Indian girls.

That's the first thing I hear from every Indian. She's very average looking. That's probably why she's not that popular over there.

Freida Pinto & Dev Patel’s High-Heel Shopping Date!

When Freida Pinto takes time out to go shoe shopping, there’s only one fashion adviser she needs on her arm, and that’s her Slumdog Millionaire costar — and boyfriend — Dev Patel. This week, the actress took her man to visit one of her favorite British shoe designers, Rupert Sanderson. Arriving for an appointment at Sanderson’s Mayfair boutique, the pair browsed through the designer’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “They couldn’t have been a more charming couple,” wrote the designer on his Vogue.co.uk blog. Surrounded by shoes, Frieda flipped through look books filled with designs, while Patel fixated on one particular style — the super-glamorous satin “Delta” platform. “Dev just loved them. They are super high, with a 12 centimeter heel,” a rep for the designer tells PEOPLE, who confirmed that the style was promptly added to Freida’s order, along with some more practical mid-heels and platforms. “He was like the perfect boyfriend, helping her with color and material choices, listening intently as Rupert explained how the shoes were made. It was very sweet to watch.” And Dev’s sartorial contributions didn’t go unrewarded — the actor left with a pair of Rupert’s new Saddled O’s for men (available exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman) while Freida left with a pair of olive patent Lolette flats from the current collection. —Monique Jessen

 Well IMO she's gorgeous. And I really don't get comments like this. There are plenty of "generic" looking white actresses in the business, but I rarely if ever hear comments about them being generic or common-looking in their threads.

^i get comments like this. there are a lot of latin models and actresses that i think are very avarege. but in America and Europe they are seen as the hottest thing in the world. do you see my point? she might be avarege on India but not for the rest of the world. the beauty is in the country of the eye's beholder. with that said i don't think freida is the hottets thing, i just think she is pretty. :flower:

^exactly. Gong Li isn't very attractive by Chinese standards (too voluptuous) but in Occident she's a goddess. Same with Natalia V who is plain by Russian standards, etc.
What is average in one culture became exotic in another.

The shoes are very pop. It would not be my choice but I'm sure she'll put it off.

^I hear the same with Ziyi Zhang-popular in the western media but not in China. This time I hear she's too up and down. Maggie Q is one of the few popular in both places, though she's not well known here, people who do know her think she's gorgeous.

I like the shoes, though I prefer them in the simpler black color. Though Freida does look amazing in color ^_^

Maggie Q is half white (Polish French and Irish father and Vietnamese mother) and that's why she's so popular. There's something wrong with people who can't accept the beauty of their own people when it's not "mixed." That's an issue most minority groups have. Notice people want to call Freida "average" because she has the features that are considered "Indian." Within every group are beautiful and unattractive people. I don't personally think Freida is the most beautiful woman I've seen, but I do think she's gorgeous.

Notice the "most beautiful" minority women are usually half white or half white looking: Halle Berry (half white); Maggie Q (half white); Aishwarya Rai (features of a White woman); Dayanara Torres (white looking). While these women are gorgeous too, it's nice to see a beautiful woman who looks like her ethnicity.

I love those shoes. They're just gorgeous!

^Agree totally! Though there's nothing wrong with not being "mixed" or not looking your ethnicity at all, but I still hope society will change and love every beauty ;)

Anyway has Rupert Sanderson designed for someone? I feel like I've heard his name before  Perhaps Dolce & Gabbana or Karl Lagerfeld?

Couturierdiva: You've actually raised something quite important and very true. Those women you listed are considered 'just exotic enough' but not 'too ethnic'. Their features are more readily accepted by Western standards due to their partially European background; while their 'non-mixed' (at least not with European heritage) sisters don't get the same treatment unfortunately.

Problem is, I see this being an issue in their respective countries as well...seems rather confusing.

Well it's the most interesting outfit she has worn in quite a while, if you ask me. Lately she has either worn unflattering outfits or looks that don't suit her.

yeah, don't like it either, not very flattering.

anyway, without tags:

celebutopia.

^ I agree. It's not the most flattering dress. She's wearing a Valentino dress from the S/S 2010 collection
