French New Wave

Oh, I adore 'Les Mistons'! You're right Bernadette Lafont is stunning in the film. Did you know that the man she is in love with in the film was her real-life boyfriend? She wasn't even an actress.
One of the things I love about French New Wave movies is that they were filmed so casually over a short period of time using friends of the director.
And that energy and sheer joy of making the film really comes across.^_^

AH! I'm so glad this thread exists. I just watched breathless and I loved it!!!!
Belmondo is tres sexy especially when he brushes his thumb against this lips, plump lips might I add.

So the next one on the list:

The usual actors and actresses have been featured in this thread, but I find myself captivated by people with literally just walk-on parts in these films. Wish I could find pics of them, but alas..I can't.:(

I love the young girl in Breathless who stops Michel on the street with a petition and he says he hates the youth and she pulls a face.

I'm able to do screencaps and I couldn't resist capturing the brief seconds of this young girl in Breathless, that I mentioned earlier.

Her skirt had a wonderful swing as she tottered over the cobblestones...
These caps don't do justice to seeing her in motion and the sound of her voice

^ Ah yes! Chantal Goya! I tell you what - I'll make screencaps of Masculin/Feminin and post them for people to see:flower:

You're wonderful Karina! That pic hardly does her justice, does it? She is the epitome of 60s adorable. Ooh I can't wait!!!

I love this thread. One of my favorite things about French New Wave is the fact that the actresses seemed to have this really intriguing air about them. They always outshone the men in the films. I just love the contrast between those women and the bland Mischa Bartons we have in American cinema today.:innocent:

As promised, here are my screencaps of Godard's Masculin Feminin.
Since this is a French New Wave thread I thought I'd include images of scenery shot (since 60's Paris is wonderfully evoked in this film) and other characters from the film and some star-studded cameos! Enjoy everyone!:woot: :flower:

Chantal Goya plays Madeline, an aspiring pop star. A passive girl, who constantly checks herself in mirrors and touches her hair to reassure herself that her iconic bob is neat...

Raoul Coutard's cinematography enhances the scenes captured of Paris and it's inhabitants. Caught unaware sometimes in a faded grey, moody blots of noir or luminiscent overhead strips of lighting...

Francoise Hardy briefly appears getting out of an American embassy car and walking into a building

Jean-Pierre Leaud plays Paul, a disenchanted youth recently demobbed from the army who finds himself pulled towards communist leanings. At once intense and direct but also boyish, skidding across floors and jumping over benches to reach Madeline...

An anxious Paul roams the streets...

Madeline's outfit here is tres chic!

The trio spot Brigitte Bardot in the corner going over a new script...

Faces stare intently at the cinema screen...

I love Jean-Pierre Leaud! I have to see this film. Thank you for the lovely caps, 1karina1! Karma!

Isn't he just scrumptious?! :woot: And thanks for the karma, Nyx. I still have some more screencaps to upload but I'm heading out the door right now, but I'll put them up on the thread when I get back. See you then!:flower:

Madeline continues to pursue fame...

A poster bearing the image of Sylvie Vartan, the poster-girl of the ye-ye music scene, looks down on the young ones

"The Children of Marx and Coca-Cola"

An isolated young boy with too many thoughts...

A vacant girl with too little thought...

That's all my screencaps from the film.

Wow what a lot of work Karina! The stills from when they are at the cinema are particularly beautiful! Thankyou. And that hair... I'm tempted to take the plunge and get that gorgeous cut. A lot of Parisian girls seem to be doing that look right now too.

Thank you so much Karina! The clothes and styles look wonderful.

And I'm tempted to color my blonde bob brunette!
