For the best wardrobe in black and white, both for men and women, I think seeing "Last Year at Marienbad" is a must. Delphine Seyrig wears a series of "petites robes noires" that are extraordinary, but so do the extras in the social or party scenes in the film.
 
This is my favorite thread! The clothing from French New Wave movies are flawless, well in my opinion. I'm trying to find out who were the costume designers, if any, for these movies.
