French Style!

^Exciting news StellaMare! :flower: I can't wait to be in Paris again.

I definitely need to rethink my wardrobe - I'm travelling for a few weeks in the summer to Italy, and I want to travel light, but also with style and quality in mind. I think this will be a good place to test out my 'french style' of dressing ;)

hi miu_miu, do you think french style have influence on your purchase? I gradually have something like french standard in my mind that is quality & my style thing...also keep sober mind when sales come~~~:rolleyes:

^I definitely think it does - although it's kind of accidental and conditioned by two things.

Firstly, I confess I don't have the perfect figure - so I believe I have to be a little bit more careful about what I wear. I've learnt over the years what suits me and what doesn't, what can help my legs look longer etc. So what works for me, is to keep things simple...I look for well fitted, tailored clothes that will flatter my body. Secondly, i'm not that interested in trends. It's sort of irrelevant to me whats hot or not, because if it doesn't look good, I won't wear it. I'm pretty sure of what I like, and not to say I never make mistakes or have impulse purchases, but I have learnt, and I am learning.

So I always keep my body in mind. Another thing that helps me keep my purchases in check; what do I need? When I go to my wardrobe to get dressed in the morning...what do I think? When I'm creating an outfit...what do I wish I had? And actually, it's usually really, really basic things. A cute jacket to transition between winter and spring, for example. I think about things that can dress up or down, like capri pants. With heels, very chic, with flats, very casual.

I dont know, is this helping any?! :unsure::lol:

Thanks miu_miu, they are certainly helpful!

My post were lost becoz TFS required me to re-log in...:yuk:

I agree with you, we must get to know ourselves before purchase, need, style, what we are lack of but not what we merely like.

I've noticed in Paris that they are all different, everyone is trying to make his/her own personal statement with a small touch of detail...it is not about attaching extra stuff over you, but it can be achived with colors matching, shapes & volume, fragrance,...

the Feb 19th issue of Elle France features an article listing 50 wardrobe essentials..

:blink: i beg to differ

there is definitely a fashion "mold" here in paris
the ballet flats with tights with trench..granted its very cute but i see them every day on st-germain-des-pres, gets repetitive after a while

do you have that magazine?

if so, could you please post that list? :blush:

^^ no, I just flicked it through.. it featured things like Repetto flats, white shirts, et cetera.. Nothing "new" but still an interesting list.

I believe it has been posted on other threads about French style, like the 4/5 item wardrobe thread...

Does anyone else get a bit annoyed when watching sweet 16 and they go to Paris for an outfit?

I couldn't decide which thread to place this in, but I think that fans of this one will get the most out of it. This was a documentary shown on Sundance in five episodes (each in four parts on YouTube), about the making of a couture collection for Chanel. I thought most of it was quite funny, actually, and you'll see why if/when you reach episode three. Karl Lagerfeld shows up in every episode (designing, criticizing, being very important overall), as well as a few famous faces at the runway show held at the very end (Anna Mouglalis, Oprah Winfrey). It's as entertaining as it is informative about the process from beginning to end (from the design on paper to the runway). I'm posting it here because the filming takes place entirely in Paris, and all the 'characters' are real Parisians (most of whom are little seamstresses shut up in the attic above the Chanel store) and the filmmakers managed to include some really beautiful shots of the City of Light! Here are all five episodes in order, enjoy!

Thank you so much Virginielle! I can't wait to watch that!

And Super Sweet Sixteen :ninja:
It's shocking...going to Paris in August :doh: and basically, they want a pink wedding dress. I saw one where a personal shopper was sacked for suggesting Balenciaga :judge:

Yeah thats the one that was in my head but I have seen another too.

Just wondered: what do you think would suit a 16-yrs old?
I am so insecure and keep on buying "sloaney-like" stuff which bores me to death, any advice would be highly appreciated :flower:
I already have
*nice flats (navy satin ones, black leather ones, red ones and brown suede ones which I don't like anymore)
*well fitted jeans (d.blue, straight)
* black pants
* turtlenecks
* blouses
I love skirts and high heels, but feel over-the-top wearing them...:unsure:
Moreover, I don't know whether to focus on navy, dark or brown? i need to get a new bag but can't decide which colour is the most versatile.

^oh, of course I mean "what suits me" in the french way, not in general (I hope you get what I want to express, excuse my bad English :blush: )
