Frida Gustavsson

Click HERE to see an interview with Frida about how she is Sweden's next supermodel :bunny:

The only thing that I got out of it was "casting", "fittings", "Italian Vogue", and "Katie Fogarty". So umm, calling in on resident Swedes
It is nice to hear her speak Swedish though, I think it's a first.

Aww, thank you for the video! It's amazing to hear her speaking on her mother language  but I don't understand a single word! hahahaha :)

hej hej frida hahaha :p
she's lovely..thanks for the video soymilkfreak:flower:!!!

Ahhh! :D

Here's my messy summary:

She pretty much talks about how many shows she did and how thankful she is that her teachers let her do her work on her own. Her life as a model in the present life: How her job is to mainly sell clothes and how modeling is not as competitive as she had thought as she has many model friends (points out Katie Fogarty and Lisanne). How she really enjoys photography as it is there where she can show that personality and have a connection with the photographer. She also notes that so many people ask her if model life is as on top model and she says that it's not at all alike as there is not the drama that's shown for the reality show.

She is then asked with her work with Steven Meisel and how you can't prepare for a job with him because he knows what he wants. And then unless I'm hearing something completely wrong, she reveals that she's traveling to NY to shoot for the Anna Sui campaign with Steven Meisel!!

She talks about the 32 trucks with snow that they brought from Sweden for the Chanel F/W 10-11 catwalk. Lol.

She talks about how it's individual but not lonely as she has lived with Monika Jagaciak and always someone and how she doesn't feel targeted by the dark sides of modeling. She also recommends to girls that want to model that it's a job away from home and where you might miss it and it's hard balancing with school and work hours. Still, she feels lucky that she has been able to travel alone to so many places. She finally says that she saves most of her money and she invests some of it as well.

All in all, i'm more than impressed although not shocked. She is very well-spoken and seems to be quite smart in what she says and how she refers to modeling as a whole.

Thank you for translating that! She really is well-spoken and has a good
head on her shoulders. ^_^

thank you for the translation, ax80

Glad to see that she's a smart girl and stays grounded.
Yeah I heard the Anna Sui part as well but dismissed it thinking back to Nimue's S/S 10 campaign.
Soo...I assume that the interview is recent and the campaign might be for F/W 10-11? :stuart:

Here's a transcript of the interview! Translated by me :)

So you walked 60, 70 shows. This is phenomenal! For what time did this go on?
About 4 weeks, there are a few shows per day... so you do have to rush around.
So how do you feel now?
I feel good! I had a day off which I spent with a friend in Paris. We slept till one o'clock and walked around. And I've also managed to rest a bit back here in Sweden... hang out with my family and eat Swedish Pick and Mix sweeties.
So have you left school now?
Oh no, I'm still in school but I do most of it myself... it's very hard to stay in school when most of the time you're in New York. But my teachers are very very good and I'm very grateful.
Now, this thing with models... in the 90's we had supermodels, but nowadays models are quite anonymous to the general public although very famous within the fashion world. But how would you describe your job exactly, what do you do?
Well, my job is to sell clothes... though I don't have any personal contact with the customers. There's different parts... there's the catwalk where you walk and show the clothes to their best advantage....
Yes, let's show a clip... now where are you? You all look alike. There's no strong personalities... and now we see behind the scenes. How long does it take to get ready?
Oh, is this Nina Ricci?
No, Dolce and Gabanna I think...Let's see
Am I here?!
Well I'm hoping we'll spot you!
Oh I can't really remember, I think to this one I came only five minutes before hand because I was at another show...
So do you all know each other?
Yes, there's my friend Katie Fogarty! Yeah, you hang out with each other every day for 6 weeks so we're all close. Castings and fittings... you become really good friends! There's me! (Points to clip)
It's said to be very tough...
Originally I did think there would be a lot of competition. But you learn to accept it, sometimes some people do really well and others not as much. Everyone looks so different, so one season it might go really well for someone and then the next season not as much.
But isn't it about having more of a style, a look, than a personality? Can't it be hard sometimes to just be part of a crowd?
Well, that's mainly at fashion shows. Taking photographs for magazines and campaigns, that's what I enjoy most because there you can let your personality shine through because you create a character together with the photographer. And you create an atmosphere and a feeling, it's more like playing a character.
Well I guess it can be hard taking a picture! Do programs like Top Model show it how it really is?
Haha no, everyone thinks it is and you always get, "Oh my god, is it like Top Model?!" But no, I've never gotten into any drama... It's just a TV show.
I see you've gotten to work with some top photographers... Steven Meisel, for Italian Vogue. Does it feel weird, remarkable?
Well I mean, when you get to a set, it's always such a big production... we're talking 5 days!
So what are you going to be doing in NY?
I'm going to be shooting a campaign for Anna Sui with Steven Meisel.
That's fantastic... Steven Meisel again, he's a star! He's probably amongst the ten most important photographers right now.
How do you prepare for a job like this?
I sleep! There's not that much to prepare, because really you don't know what you'll be doing with Steven... you just have to be well rested and arrive on set with a positive attitude!
Yes, he's a personality, he knows what he wants.

Lalala lots of boring babble from the lady with the brown hair about the shows-

The male interviewer: You look cool as hell!
Lady: Here's Chanel...
Oh I have a funny story to tell! That ice is from Sweden! They filled 32 trucks and drove it.... and then they put it on the stage and built like, a castle and then they took it down and drove it all back!
But what I want to know is, do you never feel alone in this big ocean? How do you manage?
Well... I don't mind traveling alone. You get used to it. It's a very personal, individual job. But I've been living with people, I lived with Jac recently this season, which has been fun. But in some way you always have people around you, so in that sense you're never really alone.
But then, there's a darker side to the fashion world - more than one model has spoken out about eating disorders, coming into contact with drugs... Have you experienced any of this darker side?
No, I've been very separate from any of that. I don't really think it's just to do with the fashion world though, it's more about you as a person. For me... if my agent ever said, "You have to lose weight", I'd say no, I'd rather stop. As long as I am myself...
But then, you must think about your body a lot, since it is your livelihood?
But I don't go on any diets. And I don't think my friends do either. It's up to yourself how serious you want to be.
But you would be brave enough to say no to a job if it came with such a demand?
Yes, yes of course.
We know there's lots of young girls that dream of standing in front of the camera like you. Can you give them any advice?
I think that if you want to do this, you have to understand that you travel a lot, you spend a lot of time on planes and time away from your family. You miss people and want to call them but then you're in another time zone. You do spend time alone, and you have to balance school with your work even though it's a full time job. It's much harder than you think... I've been working non stop these past 6 weeks from 6 in the morning to 2 at night.
Do you think you're growing up too fast?
No... well... I have grown up fast, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I realize I've gotten to experience a lot and travelled.
What are you going to do with all your money?
Well I'm saving, investing, in Swedish wood amongst other things!

It's not perfect I'm sorry! So tired, bed time now :) I just wanted to share because I thought she was so cute haha

wow! thanks fika! i read it all the way! and now i feel bad because of what you wrote on the bottom... lol

wow! thanks fika! i read it all the way!

same here, read the whole thing  i love this interview. she made
so much sense. and it's good to see her serious side every once in
awhile, as opposed to the wonky Frida we're always exposed to

Thanks a lot for the translation fika.:D I had to sit through ten minutes and forty-six seconds of utter confusion.

Wow, Big Karma to you fika. I appreciate your work you put in it ;)
It's funny how she forgot that she was at Dolce&Gabbana, but I guess If you walk 70 shows, you really don't rememer every single one
I loved to hear her speaking swedish. It's such a beaufiul language! I really think about to choose it as a new subject in the upper stage ^_^

^ Lol she didn't forget walking the show. Actually she didn't really say "am I here", they were just trying to figure out which show it was from the hair & makeup backstage (but they were both wrong, it was Giambattista Valli) and then Frida said she remembered that show because she arrived late... :)

i feel like in the future, she's going to become a karl lagerfeld favorite... i just hope it doesn't come with the side effects...

and omg! anna sui! she looks like a great anna sui girl to me... just fits the aesthetic if you ask me... seeing how she looks like a beautiful elf! =]
