i'm in toronto for a wedding with my girlfriend. they're shooting a movie called "blindness" in the lobby of our hotel. i'd actually read about it recently, but didn't put together who was in it and the fact that it's actually a real meal deal movie (it's directed by the guy who did "city of god" and "the constant gardener").
anyway, when we came back to the hotel tonight, we were walking in the door when my girlfriend did a double take and said "oh my god it's..." and that was as far as she got. she was gone to go to talk in spanish to a guy who turned out to be gael garcia bernal. which is pretty cool. he's a very good actor and makes good movies. but my girlfriend was basically a puddle. if there was any chance of her having a drink, etc. with him i knew i would have been cast off like an old pair of socks.
so she exchanged a few words with him and then we headed back up to our room. we were up there for a while haing a drink when i proposed that we go back downstairs and ask him if he would let me take a picture of the two of them. which, despite the fact that i have a standing policy against accosting celebrities (for christ sakes, when i literally ran into gerard depardieu in new york a few weeks ago i didn't give him so much as a "a va") we did.
unfortunately, when we got down there they were very busy shooting a scene which seemed to last forever and encompass about 30 takes. sitting there with my camera i felt like half stalker, half paparazzo. and it was unbelievably unpleasant, as all of the crew (there were at least 50 people involved to some degree milling around the lobby) clearly saw that we were a couple of star struck idiots. i cannnot imagine a worse life than that of a celebrity stalker.
long story short, we eventually did wait it out and get the picture. he was polite, but clearly somewhat non-plussed that after a long night of shooting he had to pose with a fan at 4am.
that said, here it is:

all i can say is my career as a celebrity stalker both began and ended this evening...unless i happen to run into javier bardem with her, i suppose...in which case i will have to reprise my role...though if we ever run into julia stiles or natalie portman, she damned well better have my back...
