There have been many issues about Oldman's past. He has freely admitted in interviews he was and is a recovering alcoholic. But any violence is certainly false. Some time ago a Gary Oldman Site (Dark Side) had a "manifesto" on the site written by a fan and Oldman himself wrote to the site and said while he is grateful for dedicated fans, much of what is written about him is false. In my opinion Oldman is very much a sincere and honest person - watch his Charlie Rose interviews on Youtube - he never shys away from difficult questions.

I so wish he would be known more to the mainstream audience but then...I'm afraid it woud ruin his appeal. And this man is soo sooo appealing to me

I never realized how photogenic he is until I saw all these pics. Of course the photographer also is a major factor. I always appreciated him as a brilliant actor. some great photographer once said what makes a great object for the camera is a cameleon quality. Maybe a lot of photographers say that, I dunno. All I know is, Oldman has the magic quality photographers love.
In some pics he reminds me of John Lennon, others of Christian Slater. He's like an *older, wiser, sexier* Slater.
I remember hearing of his youthful and darker days. Alcoholism will bring out the worst in people. If he is truly recovered, then he is free to be his best self. I believe he is recovered and doing brilliant.
