JPG TURNS TO THE HIGHSTREET
AS Karl Lagerfeld's collection for H&M sold out in a matter of hours from the Paris store on Friday, the team at French mail order catalogue La Redoute must have been rubbing their hands together with glee. Today it unveiled its latest spring/summer 2005 issue, which features a 20-piece capsule collection from Jean Paul Gaultier. Including plenty of the Gallic designer's signature stripes, the line is considerably more conservative than what we are used to seeing from him. "The idea was to take classic items from La Redoute and to add my signature with stripes or staples on a pair of jeans," Gaultier told YAHOO.COM. "This is neither a first, second, nor third Gaultier line. It is a line apart, something I don't produce in my other collections. These are simple, basic products which I hope will be accessible to quite a few people." Gaultier follows the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel and Issey Miyake in putting pen to paper for the catalogue, which generates £1.2 billion in sales and counts Britain as its second biggest market.
