JEAN PAUL GAULTIER announced yesterday that it was restructuring its business model in a bid to break even by the end of next year. Having posted sales of £393 million last year, the company said it had been spared until now by a general crisis in the luxury sector but that now it had to "restructure to remain competitive". Company chairman Donald Potart told AFP that "restructuring plans" were being worked upon and admitted that a "social chapter" may well see some job losses. He ensured, however, that the much-hyped biannual haute couture collections would not be a casualty of the new system and that the company, which employs 175 people and posted its first loss since 1991 last year, intended "to hold onto all its activities starting with haute couture". Thank god he's not leaving the couture....that would be terrible.

Heh, I can see Hermes all over this. Well, you have to sell and keep afloat...
