You can see the body suits on youtube 300 training videos. I'm not saying that they didn't work out and try to bulk up anyway...I'm just saying that for certain shots, stunt doubles and body suits were used.

You might be right about body doubles for some, but there was a whole video on the "300 spartan workout" training for the movie on the Men's Health magazine website. The trainer for the cast was Mark Twight, a former world class mountain climber who apparently believes in training like your life depends on it (think 100 reps of stuff). It definitely showed, I think Gerard was the real thing in the movie.
