Gerard Darel "must have" bag here in France

This thread is very informative!! I am going to Paris this week, and was wondering if anyone here knew if the prices there were significantly less than those in New York.

Well a basic drapé, leather, no pockets is 230euros = 273$.

I've been reading this thread for a long time now, and as a proud owner of a black drapé (bought in august), I thought I should share a bit of my knowledge about this bag! ^_^
I'd also like to point out that they changed the leather for the new collection, it's not so thick, shiny and textured. The leather is more mat, even. I like the new one better but I feel like can't buy the same bag, in the same color again...or can I? :innocent:
So if you don't really like the previous leather, or if you are not interested by the new one, you should consider that before buying the bag :flower:

Thank you for the input. Not that I really NEED a new bag, what with a new BBag on the way, but those prices are very reasonable, significantly less than at Bergdorfs.B)

I tried to look at the Gerard Darel website..but that's just a front page and nothing more :(
Besides E-bay are there stores outside of France and the one mentioned in California that sell these bags (I'm particularly interested in the Gerard Darel Drape bag) ? By any chance anywhere in London or Berlin ?

There are Darel bags at Fenwicks on Bond Street. I had seen them in Madrid, and wasn't taken with them (maybe it's just El Corte Ingles that is so dreary, it makes everything look bad), but came back to London and took a look, and was much more impressed.

speaking of fake drapes at witchery, i couldn't help but notice how many fake "it" bags are carried around in sydney. almost every young girl i saw had a fake paddy, silverado, drape bag, etc. it was kind of strange and disturbing.

I see more and more girls carrying fake darel bags... But it's okay because they're SO obviously fake , it's not even a problem.
I spotted two kind of fake : first one with stiff leather and wrong hardware on the ties and another one, in plastic (awful looking), with a square-y shape and no hardware on the ties, just knots.

Oh there are smaller versions of the Drape? I want!! Friend is going to Paris. I should get him to bring one mini Drape back for me!

I would love to see pictures of the small one! Loving the 24h and would definitely love a (12h???!).

Hanne, i've seen they sell them in a small store in Holte (i suppose you're still located in Copenhagen). I know they carry the off-white, the black and a maroon colored as well (which had pockets though).

Thanks Aurel! Is the new leather as soft? I have the chocolate brown with the textured leather and it is SO soft and buttery that if I were to get a bag in another color it would have to have that same silky softness.

Well of course it's soft, because it's still very good leather. It's just that it has a different look and a different feeling. It's less slouchy and buttery, more silky and delicate. I think someone posted pic of a tan drapé on page 21 that has this leather (but I might be wrong)...
But I'm sure you shoud be able to find the previous leather on eBay or in stores...

i only remember two gerard darel shops in paris. there's one on saint germain des pres (just next to cafe de flore) and then there's one on rue royale (close by rue st. honoré). of course you can find the bags in the department stores as printemps as well ;)

Yep, Printemps and Galeries Lafayette (though Galeries Lafayette has a bigger collection of Darel bags than Printemps) are a good idea, it's more convenient than having to find a shop.
But the thing is that they might not have all the different model of bags...
I know there's also a shop place Passy...
(if you go on www.pagesjaunes.fr , search for "gerard darel" in "paris" it will give you all the addresses :flower:)

Ahh thank you Mettchen, I have family in Holte, so I'm there every now and again, which store would that be ?

Witchery always sell rip-offs - they have sold silverados, paddingtons, bulgas and now darels. I wonder why real designers don't do something about it - but i guess we are too far down under for them to bother...

Anyway any GD experts can tell by looking at these 2 pictures if this is the real thing?

Thanks! :flower:

yes, i can't believe it. Witchery always copy from others. i am wondering have this company ever hired a designer? :innocent:

Tell me about it...I am Australian, though living in Hong Kong. Every time I go home it never ceases to amaze me how many fakes are around. Australia has such a mass 'trendy' market..

lucky brand has a bag they're selling right now that looks A LOT like the darel, as well as other bag companies like the MJ that was already posted....
