Givenchy S/S 2022 Paris

It's 2015 Tisci but executed by someone who clearly has no idea of how to tailor for the female body or to properly construct a peplum jacket...or anything really. His Alyx garments are crazy flat and now we all know why...

He's truly Wang 2.0. We all know what looks he's copying and we can also see how much talent/ability he lacks to properly execute them.

Oh No, I like it...because they are reference my favourite designers :rofl::rofl:
TBH, some of the stuffs are actually look quite amazing. The styling is good.
BUT the craftsmanship of those transparent (yellow and purple) top are quite poor.
You are GIVENCHY, do better !!!

He needs to really stop with these terrible collaborations, at least this time he toned it down a bit. Overall, I thought that the collection was okay, the womenswear was actually enjoyable and so much more interesting than the menswear.

I did really love the presentation though, I'll give him that. So simple and sleek with a great soundtrack too.

In this general Shoot-the-horse festival, I am almost afraid of telling this but, as much as I am not particularly impressed by this, I do not hate it either . And I do not miss CWK a bit, especially her RTW (unlike her Couture), that most people here laughed at at the time.
I think MW is doing the smart thing here, which is reconnecting to Tisci's aesthetic, which is what made the brand what it is, rather than the tenuous legacy of the founder: we all know most designers, starting from McQueen, struggled to make something out of it, until Riccardo superimposed his dark romantic trademark. And it is quite telling, in this sense, that Williams ditched la Volkova and called back Panos Yiapanis to style the collection, ie the person who originally concocted the Givenchy look.

Like often, editing is paramount and the whole middle section of the show could be left in the showroom for the Chinese buyers to ogle at. The last part of the show is by far more convincing.

When you listen Givenchy your heart beats and spects something wonderful not these.

Better than before but still nothing under the sun.
The irony of having a Streetwear designer who is not able to design a good pair of sneakers, a good crossbody bag or some catchy accessories.

The menswear is worse than the womenswear which is pity because that’s the category that suffered the most under Clare.

I think the knitted, Balenciaga FW2003 inspired dresses were fine. The rest is just a worst version of Riccardo…Considering that Burberry is stronger, what’s the point?

The set and the music were great tho.

He has been contracted on standard three-year contract with the extension. He will most likely be extended as the Givenchy sells quite well comparing to CWK.
Isn’t it a bit premature to say that he is « selling »…
With Clare, sales declined. Obviously, Givenchy under Riccardo had that perfect balance because it sold well for menswear and womenswear…
And while Riccardo’s own fragrances weren’t a big hit, his success at Givenchy did impulse sales for their blockbuster fragrances.

One thing that may help him save his job is the pandemic because it hasn’t allowed his stuff to perform. Unlike Virgil, poor Matthew doesn’t have any cultural impact.

This collection will be his test…
I do not think it will sell tho.

Whoever said he is selling well either works for the Maison or clearly just made that up. Every store associate will tell you their brand is selling, but the numbers do not lie especially when they are inked in financial statements. I have been all over LVMH’s results and they have yet to mention any sort of actual number for MW’s Givenchy.

That being said, I really don’t believe that he can design inspired clothes. Rather, he designs a “vibe”. The set was actually really cool IMO, I loved the soundtrack and the audience definitely resembled more of downtown clientele. But what came from the actual output was dissatisfying and not though-out. There has to be a synchronization of materiality where this universe he has created matches the physical apparel that is brought to life each season. Anyone who owns or has seen his Alyx pieces IRL knows that the quality is by far not up to the luxury goods industry standard. Cheap, hardly, luxurious, barely. Sure, he can sit in a boardroom and bounce off ideas with him team, but when it comes down to the actual construction/formation of garments, this desired skill set is obviously lacking. It is sad for Givenchy and sad for the industry. Therefore I simply do not expect much each season. How can you when this is the result?

Last thing, Haider should have been offered the role.

I was shock at the veeeery toned down basic tailoring. I can find so many outfits like them in your local suburban clothing store. The only look that interested me was a green one with military prints & some bags.

I live in Miami and there is a wonderful Givenchy store near my house and in the window there seem to only be bags and hoodies very sad for a house with such rich history! across the st there is a Tom Ford store and the window is full of dreams

This collection is so clearly the work of someone who's maybe not a bad stylist and creative consultant, but has no actual insight or expertise when it comes to design.

As others have said, the look and general vibe of the show is decent, if nothing groundbreaking: there's something undeniably cool about having models zig-zagging around a sleek white oculus to various melodic hip-hop beats. It's a familiar vernacular, but when it works it works I guess.

However, when you actually look at these clothes oof are they bad. Just like, objectively poorly designed garments. The construction of the jackets, all of the ruffle detailing...it's horrendous. And as the above poster noted, conceptually this all adds up to retreads of ideas that've been done for the past decade. At least he knows he can't cut it doing actual Haute Couture collections.

I mean...what is this? That's the second look of a collection you're showing at Paris Fashion Week? This would look uninspired and poorly conceived for an Alexander Wang show, much less for Givenchy. Idk why but that look in particular just confounds me so much.
