Givenchy S/S 2023 Paris

What a sad joke of a collection. Everything was so unflattering and so dated in styling. The references used are so far removed from anything Givenchy in feeling he should be embarrassed. Also bad idea to do the show outside at this time with those lights, all the models just look deeply haggard.

He looked like a smug ****hole coming out at the end. Deserves to have all those empty seats.

I'm curious if they really had to hire Carine Roitfeld to style this collection because she brought nothing that could possibly save Williams at Givenchy. There was Balenciaga from Shein and some Celine by Hedi, just because he finally started to sell and Williams tries to manifest that energy. There were even some Versace gowns. However, changing the stylist three times in three years is a perfect indicator of what's going on behind the scenes and how desperate Matthew Williams is. But honestly, if I was him, I'd look for another job or focus on Alyx because with those clothes and extremely weak accessories game he won't stay long at Givenchy.

What a mess. Nobody wanted to be there, nobody cared and it doesn’t smell nice for Matthew.
It seems like Carine went into her wardrobe to help him save his collection. Suddenly we have Chanel jackets, Tom Ford-a-like silhouettes, the Helmut Lang 2004 shoes, some Nicolas here and there and of course some Balenciaga by Demna and even a bag that slightly ressemble a Balenciaga bag.

When the aesthetic of the stylist overwhelm ones of the designer, it means that the designer ain’t doing what he is supposed to do.

But beyond Carine’s involvement, the clothes looked so poorly made of rushed. Some fabrics looked like they had no weight and not even such a cast can save it really.

It was, however, a very retail friendly collection. All the categories were covered but it didn’t looked like it deserved the prices we know Givenchy charges.

Those are clothes you are happy to get offered if you are an influencer or if you are a customer, you only want to buy when they hit the Outlet stores.

Only the red dress sparks joy for me... Givenchy doesn't need all that cheap looking sports wear...

Maybe it’s the rain, but it’s most probably his lack of skill but this collection was exceptionally sad and drab looking.

When you see something like *THIS*, then you know the end of the world is inevitable... :nuke:

After reading that NYT article, you'd think he and Carine were going to reinvent the way women dress  In reality, this is just another faceless, nameless collection. Williams' contract is most definitely not getting renewed.

I actually like it. So what if it's copied? Everybody else is copying eachother too, and they're not even doing it well.

Wow. He is so shameless in his copying. It's kind of unbelievable.

he looks as miserable as the parisian weather.
can someone please put him out of his (and our) misery?

Just as I expected, Carine can't help to elevate something that wasn't there in the first place.

Everything is so messy.
This collection looks like a cheap knockoff of Carine's wardrobe.
These must be the saddest Chanel jackets that I ever saw, just go for vintage if you want an affordable Chanel jacket (much better than the current ones by Virginie anyway)
Carine is using her same tricks at TF here, hoodies under jackets/blazers, cargo pants, black miniskirts, etc...
The execution and the fabric choices showed how inexperienced Matthew is when it comes to clothes making, this is why I will always support TF, he may send out the same garments but you know he has perfected every single detail. His clothes may look vulgar but it was never sloppy.
Some of the dresses are on the same level as Jacquemus, which is a shame considering the Givenchy atelier can do so much more than this.

Au revoir, Mr. Williams

Copy with aplomb and personality. Put your personality in it.
Without personality, what’s the point? What’s the point of this? What’s the point of that cry baby article on the NYtimes.
