Givenchy S/S 2023 Paris

The Loïc Progeny review:

Take note on how little they talk about the collection.

Maybe Matthew did look promising to the suits or whoever that recommended him, but he certainly doesnt seem that way to me and I believe many others here in this forum.
So what got him the job I wonder? His perceived `star quality`?
His lacking in talent is really so super glaring at this point in time that I cannot even recalled any one other designer that is simply this bad, not one collection or even one piece of clothing that is desirable.

I have never walked into a Givenchy boutique since Tisci left, because Clare also did a terrible terrible job there for menswear. And to be fair, I think at least from a commercial point of view (I just visited Matchesfashion to check it out for the first time), Matthew isnt as bad as Clare`s. But the ship has sailed for many Tisci`s loyal customers since Clare`s tenure, so unless he was able to completely turned it around with superb marketing campaigns/ fanfare/ endorsement despite being lacking in actual talent etc he might have been able to do something around it. But sadly, even with his supposedly star quality and connections, he didnt manage to.

In fact, I now wonder can he still continue his Alyx brand with this embarrassment now. The whole fracas with Ye`s actions simply does him no favour, and maybe in a way, worse than Daniel Lee`s sudden departure....

I think he had potential.

Alyx looked good and he had a lot of buzz. And he's smart so no doubt he impressed in interviews and in conversation with those making the hiring decision. Also, their other School of Ye hire was a huge success so why not let lightening strike twice? Surely he looked good on paper.

But it turns out that Alyx was a one trick pony (he stretched all that buckle hardware way past its limits) and it turns out he had way more buzz than talent.

No surprise to any of us. I was as skeptical as any of you but I prefer to wait to damn something until I've seen the clothes.

And the clothes are abysmal. That's been consistent his entire time at Givenchy.

I expect his contract will expire and he'll be replaced.

Not a matter of "if" but when and by "whom."

Despite her issues I think we can all agree CWK's Givenchy was preferable to this.

Heck, even Julien Macdonald was better than this.

I suspect he'll be fine with his Alyx line as the audience for that can't even tell that his Givenchy is as awful as it is.

Like looking at a decent Alexander Wang collection from 2010.

Poor thing was in over his head and couldn't catch up to the what this job entailed. He doesn't have the skill or vision(yet), and likely never will.

It's crazy how irrelevant Givenchy is to the fashion and luxury crowd right now in relation to where it was a few years ago. The only people I see wearing it are the more urban, hip hop crowd who seem to be a fan of Matthew.

watching this left me with a profound sense of sadness.
Although Loic's breezy style did make me laugh several times.

True. But it is as Heidi always said, "one minute you're in, the next you're out."

It goes to show how difficult it is to find a winning ticket and to maintain long-term success.
