Goldfrapp

i was reading on itunes and there were actually people describing the felt mountain and the seventh tree sound as 'easy listening' no,no,no,no,no....that's really rather insulting, frankly.

hehehe....i wish i had something like that on mine.

great list! i love that even in randomness, she still picked a classic. love minnie and come to my garden

btw,i'm a bit surprised she didn't mention a bat for lashes song since it's so close to some of the stuff she likes. and they just used the same director for A&E that did 'what's a girl to do'. i'm sure they intentionally sought her to do it.

I'm really disappointed with Seventh Tree. It's watered down mush for the masses. Similar to what Dido puts out. Clowns is the only standout. Otherwise, it's a mediocre album.

^I have played it just once but first impression is not memorable. I need to listen more. I really like cover and booklet pics.

you know i was listening the songs over and over(no hot chip pun..hehe) on their myspace last week, and really it isn't like felt mountain. it's just organic like felt mountain. it's not as experimental or esoteric those sounds are when they used the korgs and moogs and the distorting microphones....yodeling and opera from alison....the lyrics aren't as metaphoric and abstract.....and unlike felt mountain, the entire album of seventh tree--beginning to end--isn't as dynamic. not i think they were really trying to re-create felt mountain, but i keep reading all of these reviews and keep seeing comparisons to the debut and it's just not right to me. seventh tree to me is just another element to what they can do organically....they've had the black cherry and supernature synth/machine approach....now they've got something else to counteract all of that just as they did when they released black cherry to counteract the sounds of felt mountain.

if anybody happened to buy the box set of seventh tree one got some pretty amazing things. unfortunately,i don't even remember the box set being available when i pre-ordered otherwise i would have got this. beautiful lyric book with some of alison's fantastic artwork.

Thanks for those amazing pics, Scott, she's incredibly talented in so many ways! :woot:

i wish i could find some wider frames because i saw a tiny one on goldfrapp.free.fr that looked stunning but unfortunately wasn't in a larger frame.

btw,i completely take back what i said about the lyrics not being as quirky....those jumbles are just as metaphoric and mesmerising as they usually are. i think that's the one aspect, that will keep them indie,to be honest. i don't think the mainstream world especially in america will ever really connect to their sense of quirkiness and their not-so catchy lyricism. most especially since they've moved on from the dance stuff. even if they do play round with pop, there is always that underlying irreverent abstraction. but i can't tell you how much bitching i hear because they've changed their sound from the supernature sound....and some people even think their career began with supernature. which is pretty sad.

Oh, thanks for those wonderful pics, Scott. I need to see if the box set is available and then buy it!

Thanks a lot for all those pictures Scott :flower:.

The standouts for me are
Clowns
Eat Yourself
Cologne Cerrone Houdini
 I find those magical...

some of the other songs may sound a bit too pop at times... but I think all together, they make a good fit. I agree about:
even if they do play round with pop, there is always that underlying irreverent abstraction
