I think goth in it´s most obvious, opulently embellished sense (á la gothic lolita/victoriana) is pretty hard to pull off for those that are not fragile looking (therefor I guess it´s a look that should be better kept by the japanese girls, if we are speaking of a total look). I´ve been to Harajuku, Takeshita Dori (the street in which you find most of the gothic lolitas hanging around apart from Yoyogi) once and for me it´s like looking at Galliano/McQueen/... clothes or costume exhibitions - nice to take away some ideas but nothing I´d actually consider wearing 1:1.
Apart from that infamous F/W 02 Gucci collection, I was pretty surprised nobody mentioned Rochas/Olivier Theyskens before... it´s so obvious with all the delicate Chantilly lace, structured evening gowns/bustiers and Tailleurs. I think a lot of people can´t imagine the look torn apart into separate pieces but it could be a fantastic for a certain girl/woman that wants to look a little goth - just a jacket, a pair of ellbow length gloves, or a bustier with a black cardigan on top, worn with black skinny trousers/jeans... just have a look on that picture with Stella sporting one of Olivier´s jackets with a t-shirt, black skinny jeans and some pumps... fabulous!
I totally agree with the pieces you picked out, softgrey: That Jil Sander babydoll dress with those black pumps should be perfectly enough to capture a gothic mood without going to literally into a theme, which is something that makes it even more interesting IMO. It´s up to oneself if you´d still need black eyeshadow but I think a paler teint is always best to go along with the look.
My look always has a decent amount of rock in it, if I play around with goth, than it usually works best for me in a sartorial view: black skinny blazer, either a slim voile shirt (black or dusty-rose) or a black v-neck, those torn black coated Dior Homme S/S 04 denims and some suede ankle boots. I usuallly accessorize with an antique Art-déco onyx/silver pendant, vintage dark brown leather belt, black eyeliner and nailgloss (I think it actually looks good on me because I have quite androgynous features). I´d love to try a pair of skinny patent trousers if I ever found some with a decent quality...
Oh, and here´s just some pictures of my favourite gothic moments in fashion, enjoy
