Gucci High Jewelry 2023 : Daria Werbowy by David Sims

because it can be a sign that kendall and gigi mediocre era is over… so welcome back Daria
Why you think so? Kendall and Gigi have millions of followers. Like them or not, they give publicity to a brand they are modeling for. Who cares about Daria aside from tfs users and model stans? She is no Linda.

The first photo of the campaign is not something I like, I was never a big fan of her work either (especially Juergen's work), although I think she's a great model... But I'm glad she's back!

Ahahahaha

Exactly. Not the most exciting career revival, but at least she didn’t show up to set covered head to toe in the damn drapes, like… others.
That's not really fair, remember Linda Evangelista was disfigured from failed CoolSculpting (freezing the fat off, really?).

That aside, I also want to congratulate the post-production team for not airbrushing the "age" from her body.

Expected a glamazon version of her but I will still take it. Am surprised at how many people are saying that she's a bad model she gave us some of the best campaigns and covers in fashion.

My precious people, yesterday I was extremely exhausted from work, so I gave my opinion based only on a glanced IG photo preview we have here. Today, however, I woke up well-slept - despite the surreal thunderstorm we've had here - so, fresh-eyed, I went to Sabato De Sarno's IG profile, downloaded the photo, put it through several PS tools, and here's the result/conclusion I came to...

Do any of you remember the "PHOTOGRAPHIE RETOUCHÉE" era? (Namely, in March of 2015 France introduced Article L. 2133-2.251 - the regulation which is part of the French Code of Public Health, and mandates that advertisements using models whose faces/bodies have been digitally altered must bear the notation "photographie retouchée," or "retouched photography".)

Well, you see, in this "controversial" photo - in a sense of whether this is just a test shot or the final result - in the upper left corner we have exactly that mark; in other words, this should be the final product indeed.

Which, then, inevitably leads us to the question: *WHAT* the original photo even looks like, and whether the goal of this and such digital post-production was to make Daria more beautiful/attractive/alluring (because here, for God's sake, we are watching an advertisement for HIGH JEWELRY (read: opulence/luxury/glamour), and not some kind, as I said in my previous post - God forbid! - hospice facility), or an uglier/older/more relatable?

However, as always, only time will tell...

Daria and Tanya both coming back.....it's like a fever dream. I'm here for it!

How could you possibly dare to compare this to that:

Oh! I saw this circulating around on instagram and believed it to be a fanmade campaign using an old image of Daria. Exciting to see her back but like everybody else I am confused as to why Phoebe Philo did not get an exclusive, maybe a good thing though because it would not have been a surprise to me if she did Phoebe once and then went back to the farmlands of Ireland.

It's of course personal taste but nobody can deny the stellar career Daria has had, I remember seeing Prada's A Thunder Perfect Mind and completely falling in love with her. I suggest everybody who doesn't see the appeal watch that and if you still don't understand her success, she's just not for you.

I actually like the preview but I also think she's a stunning woman in front of anybody's lens so I'm biased. This looks indeed a bit too Teller but the sweaty summer vibes are much appreciated over here. Might be biased again because Summer is skipping Scandinavia this year.

Every fashion brand, editor and photographer want to work with her. You should spend a few seconds to look at her resume. Prestigious brands need no Kendall or Gigi or their poor teenage fan base. High fashion doesn’t cater to the mass. Gigi and Kendall are better suited selling Kylie’s lipsticks. No disrespect to Linda but I don’t think she can sell anything other than her story about disastrous cosmetic surgeries.

Indeed, Zorka, you cannot compare the ICONIC return of Daria, who has been missed for years, to Tanya, a good model no doubt, but far from achieving the iconic status that Daria holds. By the way the new campaign looks great to me.

Wow. I must admit as soon as I saw Daria's name, I immediately opened the thread with so much excitement. I've missed seeing her beautiful face. Although this may not be the ideal imagery we had all imagined for her comeback, still, thankful that Daria has agreed to do this. I honestly thought she was done with fashion.

Excellent observation, Zorka.

There’s no point in arguing about how Daria’s shot; how unflattering she may look here, and/or made out to be etc, stans will always adore her even if this was a selfie/fanmade (of which it resembles). However, this select looks to be just a mockup, and incomplete w/post as you’ve observed. There’s also this halo effect around her hair that’s a huge telltale sign of either low-quality mockup that’s be sized up— or, a digital-composite that’s not finished and requires further post; or, @netjak speculated, a fanmade mockup (...that halo around her hair that's so obvious a sign of masking is so distracting). This simply cannot be the select they signed off, even if the lowest of low standards is the standard these days.

Well, she’s promoted three pages of discussion over the weekend lol. Not necessarily the best shot, but Daria back to Gucci is very interesting and reminds of a different period of fashion. Not really sure what to expect but I’m curious to watch!

Not always, that's what makes this 'nothing less than hyperventilation' type of fanaticism a little sad, it's never really that loyal because it's hardly about the subject and more about your memories on the subject, so it fizzles out in the same way the commotion came to be in the first place. You see it with pop stars (e.g. 'free Britney!' followed by 'oh.. free Britney is uncomfortable to watch'), and on a lesser degree, you see it with models, such as Gemma. Gemma disappeared when she was already getting her 'adult' body (meaning she stopped retaining child elements in her body) and her comeback was super hyped for years under the expectation that she would look like she did at the height of her career. As soon as people realised that was not going to happen, the interest dropped. Her appearances these days get minimal reactions. Same with Daria, that last cover she did on the streets of Paris, without makeup and absolutely not looking her age due to the chain-smoking habit was already lightyears away from the work she's remembered for. The picture here is what I knew she would look like now (good, but also late 40s, not late 30s) and the poor composition doesn't help but no amount of glam will change this really, and I doubt it will happen anyway.. she seemed to put somewhere in the contract for the second half of her career that her look was not to be altered (kind of like Gisele) so if she remains super selective (and I don't see why she shouldn't), we'll only get more variations of the image above.

Unfotunately I'm not a fan of this. As much as I'm happy for her come back, I also think that this Barbie needs some make-up.
