Gwand Fashion Festival 2004

Sorry I didn't see this until now. Seven only carries classic Guess jeans, not any of the horrible Marciano stuff you would see in the Paris Hilton ads. And yeah, it's true that they have been getting rid of designers that aren't selling well--As Four, Tess Giberson, etc--for quite awhile now. I think Joseph tries his hardest to support underground talents but in the end, it always comes back to the dollar. And if a line doesn't sell, no store is going to keep buying it.

Do you think this is the same as well for Boudicca? Their work doesn't seem like it would catch on too well here either. And they've been a huge fixture at Seven since basically its inception. Like Tess and As Four.

As far as I know, they still carry Boudicca. I think Seven had a lot of problems with fall shipments. Their Raf order STILL hasn't arrived yet and we're going on December now. I don't know if they already had Boudicca in or not.

Stressful season,that's for sure.

Going back to your earlier post,I think the problem of the matter is that shops sometimes tend to focus too much on one or the other rather than giving a sort of balance to each designer's selection. I mean a few "select" expensive gems then the more easier stuff would perhaps be more of a successful approach, non?

I think this is why places like Colette and Maria Luisa et al,have survived because they are able to provide certain things to a certain type of customer without going all out on just the one thing.

ACKERMANN WINS

HAIDER ACKERMANN was fashion's biggest winner this weekend when he won the esteemed Swiss Textiles award from a sparkling line-up of finalists including Sophia Kokosalaki, Laurent Mercier, Eley Kishimoto, Preen, Lutz and Cosmic Wonder. The five-year-old award, which is presented every year at the GWAND fashion festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, is one of the industry's most prestigious and lucrative, affording the winner 100,000 Euros which is funnelled into a carefully devised business plan by a team of financial advisors. "I'm so surprised, so happy, thank you," said ex-Galliano assistant Ackermann, whose collection of edgily glamorous deconstructed jersey pieces, some featuring delicate smocking and sequinned detailing, soft leather shorts and chic sparkly vests put him ahead of the game. The 33-year-old Colombian-born, Antwerp-trained designer, who launched his label in February 2002 before being hand-picked to create a collection for Ruffo as part of their Research initiative, was chosen by a high fashion panel including Suzy Menkes and Vogue's own Harriet Quick. "Ackermann has a chic moody aesthetic typical of Antwerp-trained designers and a great skill in draping of jersey, suede and leather," said Quick. (November 30 2004, AM)

Thanks Space for the article and M-O-M for the list :flower:

I think that's a great panel. Well-rounded and intelligently appreciative of contemporary design.
