Hello I am visiting a friend here in Los Angeles and I want to get my hair cut. I want to cut it SHORT! So i need a place that is very precise and good at what they do. I have an exact hair cut in mind also its one that Jen Love had in a movie a while back. Jenniferlovehewittonline.com Pic is from there

There are so many good salons in LA, what price range are you willing to shell out for some of these salons though?

With that said, my last haircut was at Purple Circle in Los Feliz area.

1724 N Vermont Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027
(323) 666-2965

And check out the yelp site for reviews, but you'll see people are loyal to this place...

Its one of those kinda grungy cool places, but the people are great. I've had stylist at random to see the kinds of people they have and I have been the happiest here. When I wanted an extreme hairstyle, they went for it where at other salons they would say that they could give me that cut, but they stop always stop short of taking it from a contemporary cut to something that is beautifully challenging. I wanted a great short choppy asymmetrical cut I saw at a hair show and they got it right at Purple Circle. My brother does not get his hair cut by any other salon. His stylist is Amie and has been going for 6 or so years now. I've had work done by Andrew the owner for extensions and Mike, Melissa, Amie all have been good clean work and precisely what I want and very friendly people. I really vibe with Amie particularly. We chit chat like girlfriends. She gives me hair care advice, but also we talk about funny birthday party themes, the neighborhood and whats good to eat, how Im doing in school, etc.

Bottom line, I cut my hair at different places and I end up coming back. Even though I live in Las Vegas now, I plan to make an appt. in a month with Amie to have some fun with my short hair- its about as short as the look you want, not as choppy and I dont have straight across bangs. She seems to get it when it comes to me going short.

If you want a cut, make sure to book an appt. early at least 2 weeks. Cut is about $60 here and bring cash or check. :flower:

Also, San Francisco has good hair salons as well if you need a place back home. I had some great cuts at Acme and Groove Salons both in the soma neighborhood.

tony and guy is good in general and knows how to market well thats why its become such a big commercial chain.

I dont know the stylist in newport cuz I've gone to the santa monica few times and once to newport.

One thing I will say is that I've had hit and miss more at this salon than any. It seems that I had some people who are weird about styling wavy hair. Last time I wanted someone to cut it to accentuate it and also I wanted to give my hair a break from frying it with my iron because I wanted to start growing it to donate. They didnt cut it in any way special that would take away some bulk from my hair so that the wave isn't weighed down. They again started to straighten my hair when I asked for a cut that would help with my curly hair....wtf??? I went home and called up a friend to bring her texturizing scissors to cut off some bulk on layers.

With that said, I have another friend who recommends Linsay at Newport. Thats their regular stylist.

Hi,

I am going to ask you guys the same thing: I will be in LA for one week (April 26 - May 4) and hope to get a Hollywood celebrity's' style layers for the shoulder-length hair. Something like Penelope Cruz has. The price I am willing to pay is about 100$ for a haircut itself, coloring not included.

I know the best way to go is to see the result on somebody and ask the stylist to do the exact same thing he did for that person. Otherwise I always fail explaining what I want, especially because English is not my native.

I would really appreciate if somebody could show me the layers they get (post some pics probably to give a link to the pics via a private message) and give me stylist's name, phone, location.

I count on you, ladies! Ple-e-e-se! :flower:

From my side I recommend Priel's salon in Queens, NY (he did celebrities hairs) and Limpopo salon near Grand Central Station in NY. Ask for an appointment with the owners.

I have in mind something like this. I will try to find some more pics. But I am kind of feeling silly to come to the stylist with celebrities pics.

Long, full, face-framing layers cut around the front section to add shape with definition around the face.
My hair are not that long yet though.

You should just bring a picture. It will make it easier for a stylist to know what you're looking for to have a picture AND a discussion.
