hi guys,
Im currently doing my dissertation on the use of spectacle and shock tactics in fashion shows. I particularily want to know if anyone has been to the above designers shows and what thier view on it. Even if you havn't actually been to the show but have seen a video or even just pictures but that it had an affect on you, please let me know.

i personally adore McQueen after seeing his Voss show at the V&A-i think he is pure genius as he can make aesthetically and tecnically amazing clothes as well as turning his shows into theatrical performances that make people think beyond the clothes

LET US KNOW WHAT U THINK OR IF U HAVE ANY INFO

BIG THANKS

jo :woot:

i've been to the first mcQueen show in Paris (matator theme) and to Chalayan's with the closets/tartans.. both some seasons ago, when i was still not bored with attending the shows
(loved the McQueen, laughed out loud at the pretention at Chalayan's )

I love McQueen too he's truly a talented and creative man . I've seen videos for all 3 designers and for me the music is really what creates the mood for the collection i just think its very important and all 3 designers use music realy well to add to the effect of the show.

I was absolutely blown away by Alexander McQueen's Spring 2005 Ready-To-Wear collection! I wasn't there in the flesh but I of course watched the show on Fashion Television, Genius!
He's so original, I mean the chess board/pieces theme was incredible!
Absolutely adore the artistic flare!

but what made you love the McQueen show? the clothes, the way they were presented, the ambience? ild be really interested in knowing.Basically im doing research on how certain designers use theatrical elements in thier shows so that sometimes the show becomes bigger than the clothes themselves. With Hussien Chalayan, some people 'don't get it' because its too conceptual but as someone whos been to his show-what did you think-

i want to know how people react to shows like this-for me its more visually stimulating than just seeing nice dress after nice dress and i guess and it gives meaning behind the clothes .....no?

McQueen is fantastic and my sister has been in his shows and she said that it was pretty impressive.
I think Galliano is sometimes trying too much, the shows are great, but the clothes aren't. YOu never know is his next collection gonna be hit or miss.

the McQueen 'matador' show had real intersting clothes and they seemed in tune with music/show.. it wasnt too theatrical as far as i remember, just great, dramatic clothes in thematic sections, very good cut and a super casting/hair/make up. perfect show whithout taking it too far with theatrics

with the Chalayan show, he was obviously trying so hard that it was well beyond the point, with girls going over a kind of closet opening and closing drawers (sp?) too conceptional, in a way that most people where going 'what for??' i guess everyone was also upset cause the show started very late so it wasnt really wroth our time, i'd better been out dinning with friends, seriously

overshadowing his own collection with the 'conceptual' was quite ridiculous for me being there and the clothes were quite mediocre for my taste

I have been to McQueen and Galliano homme shows........ ;)

i unfortunately havn't been to any of thier shows but think they're amazing anyway-although mcqueen's shows have gone a bit commercial now and have lost thier magic. quite dissapointing really...the only shows ive been to are those ive been working for who were quite small designers although i did see karl largerfield at the paris fashion shows when i was out there. the clothes for that show were not of my taste but the rush of being involved in it all was amazing...

I watched a video of the McQueen S/S 05 show and I think it the theatrics of the show are sort of a creative inspiration, not just for the designer, but for the viewer. It made me want to go create something completely original myself.

John Galliano's show looks very entertaining as I watched the video.

Hi Jo,

Well, I have been to several shows of each of the three you mentioned. You are bound to hate my answer but here goes.

All three were silly, badly done, loud and garish attempts to add notoriety to their names in order to dig themselves even deeper into the costly niches they presently occupy. That's the good part.

The really bad thing about all three is that the clothes were simply atrocious. There was nothing, repeat nothing in any of them I would wear other than to a halloween party---maybe!

So sorry, but they are, or to be more explicit, have BECOME just second rate showmen and at best third rate designers,

Love & Kisses.

Claudia
