Henry Cavill

The more pics I see of Henry as Supmeran, the less I like them :S

Are those his arms? o_O

^Not entirely. Some of it is padding. He's big but guys love that kind of thing. Personally, I prefer his build in Immortals :woot:

I do hope the suit doesn't look like this in the final movie. Right now it looks so... cheap... like those $30 Halloween costumes with fake muscles. It's obvious that those are not *his* arms and thighs. Even more so since he is like 1/3rd leaner in Immortals and he's pretty well defined in there already. I'm having a hard time picturing the iconic Superman move, tearing off suit and shirt and... then there is *this* costume/suit/armor underneath?
Either way, the costume seems pretty similar to the new rebooted comic version, all shiny, and with those lines, except there is no red belt in movie version.

^He gained 25 pounds more for Superman - and that is after his build in Cold Light of Day where he looked bigger (but not as defined) than Immortals. Most of it IS his own body.

I think it's a shame that people always have complain just because something is changed/updated. The "iconic" Superman costume is seriously cheesy for today's audience as evidenced in Superman Returns.

It's latex.

Henry is on this same page, post #796, sans the latex. Not nearly same forearm circumference or shoulder bulk and he's clothed.

I dunno where Snyder is going with the movie, maybe the costume does make sense, but the looks at the moment leave me blank. I never liked the old costume either, the one with red briefs and Christopher Reeve-Brandon Routh wore. But I accepted it because of Jerry Siegel's reasons for going with the camp color scheme. I'm not sure what's the background for this design. Unless Snyder is trying to cut all ties with the past.

Not sure how you can tell that when he's dressed in a very loose shirt. I'm not denying the padding, but it seems to me that it's there for a more well-rounded look and hardly a huge difference from Henry's own body. Aside from that, it's not a big deal. It's done in every superhero movie - it was done in Thor, Captain America etc. Snyder is also very much a visual guy, he likes to beef up the characters as seen in his previous movies.

As for the costume, it seems alien to me. Which I think is a very interesting angle considering the plot description. The old colour scheme was a representation of the American colours, which they are moving away from which I, personally am happy about since I think Superman is just as much an international superhero.

The suit is padded (actually largely to show definition on camera because the fabric of the suit actually works a bit like Spanx and smoothes) but most of that really is Henry under there! I'm off the set post-TIFF, more than happy to have feel what's real and what's not! Taking me work hat off and film fan hat on, I love the suit and love Snyder and Nolan's concept for this, a dark, more realistic (as much as it can be) vision.

^That's what I thought too. And I was very happy when Snyder said the movie was going to be "realistic" because out of all the superheroes, Superman needed badly to become relevant again. I also figured the darkened colour scheme represented a darker tone in the movie, and that will be interesting to see if it fits with Superman or not.

I like the changes to the costume. And "a dark" and "more realistic" vision makes me VERY intrigued. I was always going to see the film, but I have more hope now that it will be one of the superhero adaps critics love.

Henry Cavill admits he has had little chance to sleep since preparing to play Superman in 'Man of Steel'.
Henry Cavill "doesn't sleep" when preparing to play Superman.
The British actor - who is playing the hero in forthcoming movie 'Man of Steel' - admits he doesn't focus too much on the pressure of portraying such an iconic character and instead just likes to do his job, which involves a lot of training and meetings.
He said: "A lot of people are relying on me to do the job properly. I tend to avoid focusing on the pressure and just do the job. And that involves a lot of man-hours.
"Training, training, training - of various types - study, source material study, meetings, costume meetings, costume meeting and then tea! They're 24-hour days. You just don't sleep. At all. Ever."
However, the 'Immortals' star has not been watching previous film instalments to get himself into character, and instead reads the original comic books.
He told Empire Magazine: "When you're doing an origin story, and a reinvention of the franchise, I certainly want to avoid watching too much of the films done previously, or other moving footage, because you can start picking up character traits of other actors' interpretations.
"The truest source of Superman is the comic books, and I want to immerse myself in those, and bring out what I can bring out from that."

Well speaking to Total Film the young actor explains how he prepared his voice for it, and reveals the initial reactions of those that have heard it..

"Doing an American accent is about exercising the muscles in your throat and your mouth. Sometimes it can sound great for a long period of time, sometimes your inflection is wrong. It all depends. As long as you've got a professional watching over you saying, "You did this wrong, you did that wrong.." it can be made to seem effortless. But you still get days when it just seems to stick in your mouth."

So how does he rate his American accent now?

"I've been told I can be very good at it..but I know I've been very bad at it in the past!"

Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel is currently shooting in LA. Find out how authentic Cavill's accent is when the movie is released in 2013.

He's looking great. Nice to see him shooting scenes out of his super suit. I'm off to the set next week for a few days, which even with my work hat on has me a little excited!

^I know. But we won't see it on the big screen until 2013 :( Thank God Immortals is coming out soon!

Two months, a little less, until Immortals. I've only seem 20 minutes of it, it's silly and blockbustery but it's not going to be a bad way to spend a few hours I think. Just don't take it too seriously!
I've arrived at the new MOS shooting location (not sure if I'm allowed to say where-you have no idea the amount of forms you have to sign only for it to be all over the net in days), they've just wrapped 10 days of shooting in Chicago. I'm having dinner with some cast and crew tonight. I will, as promised, find out how much of the boy is real and how much is the suit! That sounded wrong, must remember to stay professional
