I wonder if her work for Hermès is boring because she is trying to « design ».... I don’t know if it makes sense but when you look at either the work of Eric Bergère, Martin, JPG or Lemaire, you kinda felt like the woman or the customer was in mind before any attempt to « design ». Margiela was more interested in the women buying Hermès, that’s why he made the decision to go the opposite route. JPG...All those rich women who bought his Couture had Hermès bags and he knew so much about their lifestyle. Despite the gimmicks, his clothes were always easy and classic. She is the most boring designer ever. How do you even show up to work everyday excited about making these clothes?
Spring 2006 is my favorite Hermes collection, period. It is so beyond fabulous (the show itself is fab...one of my favorite runway soundtracks, too). So expensive, so luxurious and so absolutely rich looking...I mean REALLY rich looking...not like "the idea of a rich woman" but instead, what an actual rich woman would wear. Big difference. Nadege's Hermes feels more like what the former...the IDEA of a rich woman, but not what they actually crave to wear. What I loved the most about Gaultier was the little Couture touch he added in Hermès RTW. There was plissés dresses, Grecian draping, laces...It was really an elevated RTW! I just looked at his SS2006 collection. So simple and yet so good. Clothes that looked believable!
