Houses that appeal to your Inner Child

wow that painted apartment is breathtaking! It also gives the appearance of a cobbled together building, as opposed to one very normal looking one.

Treehouses are lovely. My dad built me one as a child (my dad is pretty awesome - he also built me a mini model airplane that I could sit in and peddle around in. Though when I got it I apparently complained that it didn't have any tie downs on it like a real airplane ). Anyway, he built it up in a tree, with a little window and a working door. It sat on a platform and you could climb a ladder up to it. But my dad also attached an apparatus to it, so there was also a ladder that was placed horizontally (ie like monkey bars) or you could take a rope down.

I loved this thread... Tree houses were my biggest wish when I was a child

A house to appeal to your inner architecturally and design oriented child

A playhouse that is a true miniature copy of Arne Jacobsen's 1928 house - scale 1:16

..and you can get Arne Jacobsen designer furniture as well..in several colors no less

^That's such a cool idea. Wouldn't it be great if more architects, interior, and landscape designers jumped on the miniature bandwagon, like those sportscar minis? We could have little dollhouses of amazing buildings, gardens, and furniture. I know they wouldn't be "real" and utilitarian, but in some ways, you could at least appreciate their craftsmanship more. Come to think of it, I wish fashion designers would do that too, it's the only way I'll ever come close to looking at all the layers of an haute couture piece. Le sigh...

I like the topsy-turviness of this room, even though it's done on purpose for the photograph. It reminds me of those funhouses at amusement parks, where the mirrors and jagged floors make you look and feel off-kilter. Not practical overall for day-to-day life, but I believe there are simple ways to add a touch of magic to your home.

My dad built one too. It mirrored the design of our house. I loved it, but sadly it had to be taken down to make way for a pool.
My grandpa who also had the same skill for building things as my dad. Made me a rocking horse, a big dolls house that could fit barbies(complete with a garage to fit my barbie corvette & a stable), a child sized Bugatti which had a motor in it but unsurprisingly 5 yr old me was NOT allowed to use the motor.

i think i've seen that circle wooden house on TV :o
it opens up..like it gets sliced open..has stairs, little spaces to sit on or tables, seemed to have more windows
steel sink and kitchen surfaces on the inside..
if i remember correctly it also functions as a boat-house

supposed to be completely environmentally-friendly

wow, these tree houses are really something! :)

Hanne, here's to you some relatively recent pictures of the Srinagar house boats, i was there in 2007. They are surprisingly big and have fun names like Ritz or Deluxe!

OMG mariska that really brings out my inner child!
I thought the tourist industry had gone so much down hill due to the political situation in Kashmir that there would be no big houseboats for tourists left anymore..

:)
There are still lots of houseboats, but not as many as can be seen on the old pictures. And most of the boats stay empty during the wintertime.

I can only imagine the kind of mood there was when you were there.. (its definitely changed) and to live there for half a year at that time, how lovely is that!

From tree huts to houseboats to caravan..

This little house with the pretty roof reminds me of 'The Shire' from The Lord of the Rings :crush:

^i love that too   like an illustration from and old fairy tale come to life.

Carmel-by-the-sea

I love the fairytale cottages of Hugh Cornstock in Carmel, California. He built the first one for his wife's doll collection, inspired by the Hansel & Gretel house (:woot:). He deliberately didn't use a carpenter's measure in order to get uneven lines.
