Hello everybody,

I really don't know if this allowed but I have to write a report about "24 hours open cities - advantages and disadvantages" and you guyz might be able to help me. It would help me so much if you can tell me how long the shops are open in your cities. And if you like to change it into 24 hours open stores or rather not.

Thank you so much in advance.

In Ney York most designer stores open around 10-11, and close around 6-8 Mon-Sat. Sunday they are either closed or open late and close early. Given...that is just a rough estimate. As for larger stores, they are usually open longer. I am fine with store hours. Sometimes it can be a hassle if you want to go pick something up at 6, and you know that you cannot possible get a cab and get there in time, but for the most part it isn't a problem.

and what about in general? is there a law which limits the opening hours for stores. Like here in Germany you're not allow to open sunday except for special events. Also shops are only allow to open from monday til saturday til 8pm. Is there are similar law in the USA?

Its Christmas so they are open 14 hours right now, but usually shops close at six on weekdays and nine on Fridays and Saturdays

I live in Germany. The shops are open from monday till saturday (circa 8 or 9 am till 8 pm). A couple of years ago they used to be open from circa 8 or 9 pm till only 4 pm, and I´m glad they changed that..............the shops are closed on sundays..............except for the little shops at the gas stations, they are open all the time..............I hate that, I would like the shops to be open on sundays and at night as well (or at least till 10/11 pm or so.........).

Store closing/opening laws vary by city, but in general, no.

Many places do regulate the sale of alcohol, however.

I really think stores like Barneys should stay open into the night... when im drunk and delirious I want to shop.

In Sydney most boutiques open Mon, Tue, Wed, Frid, Sat 930-6pm and stay open til 9pm on Thursdays. Sundays most boutiques open around 11 or 12 and close at 5pm. I'm cool with that but would definately love them to open 24/7!

in Jakarta, Indonesia the malls are open from 10 to 10 every single day, even on christmas. They are only closed during the muslim's holy day celebration (once a year)..and it's not even the whole stores at the mall, some are still open during that day.

The malls in Perth, Australia open from 10 to 6, with the exception of thursday (they have the late night shopping day every thursday, until 9 PM)..if i'm not mistaken, the malls open on sunday but the stores at the city closed on sunday.

I think 24/7 is totally unneccessary, 10 to 10 is more than enough!

this is an interesting topic...I work in a shop in SF, CA that closes at 7 pm. Its in the financial district, so not very many people are around after 6 pm.

I have an interesting observation, though - Of the people that wander in 5 minutes before closing, 7 times out of 10 are East Indian. I know this sounds weird, but its true! I've worked here for over 3 years, and I've noticed this. I was wondering, do the shops stay open late in India? Is it a custom to shop late for Indian people?

I don't know how it works for India. But this summer I spent three weeks in Hong Kong and Tokyo and the shops are open pretty long. In Hong Kong most of the shops are opened til around 10pm and in Japan also probably a little bit longer.

In Costa Rica there are NO designer or high end shops ... people who want to indulge just take a flight to Miami .. its a 2 hours and half flight ... shops generally are open 7 days a week from 10 am til 8 pm ...

And on holidays they close ..for example thi xmas .. most shops were closed on the 25th at the malls ... in here consumerism hasnt take .. years ago .. no shop wud open on sundays

It's more or less the same in Malaysia except that the larger ones also close for the Chinese New YEar.

here in Mumbai if you are talking about the malls they are open till 10:30 and if the threatre if there in the mall is open till 12:30 as the last show gets over at that time

in Shanghai most malls and designer stores open 10 a.m to 10 p.m,and 9:30 a.m to 10:30 p.m on Saturday and Sunday.
During some important holidays.eg:New Years Eve and Chinese Spring Festival they open till 11 p.m or later,it all depends.

10 am to 5 pm on weekdays, longer on Thursdays, a bit longer for really big shops like HMV, and close about 3 pm on Sundays apart from the many shops that don't open at all on Sundays.

There's no possibility of most shops being open 24 hours in Newcastle. There just isn't that much money in the city.

There's quite a few that are open from 9am in town Prince, that shut at 5.30-6.

Today for the sales some shops opened earlier than usual...the typical next opening hours of '5am till 7pm' poor staff
