i know its a weird question but i've never really looked good in a ponytail or a headband...maybe its bcoz my forehead's kinda big...i've been sporting the side-swept bangs but i still can't figure out how i'm gona tie my hair up in a ponytail or use a headband in a way that it'll look nice.. :( maybe u girls can suggest how i can do this or maybe post pictures? i'd really appreciate it... i've been wanting to tie my hair up or use a headband in public since forever...

IF you're able to, if it's okay and everything, you could post a picture of yourself. But look at all the models out there - they have very high foreheads, I love the look of a sleek ponytail with a large forhead. It really does look good. Trust me.

I bet you look great in headbands and ponytails, but you're probably just self-conscious. I have a high forehead too so I kinda see where you're coming from. I usually pull a few wisps out around my hairline so it doesn't look so harsh when it's pulled back. Also, I think extra high ponytails are cuter on girls with high foreheads than low ponytails are. On me anyway. Also, I am self-conscious about headbands too, but whenever I wear one i usually get compliments. Start with really thin ones maybe? Just give it a shot. I think it's kinda like wearing red lipstick or heels. If you aren't used to it, it kinda feels funny, but it really *does* look good. :flower:

i love the pony tail and a side fringe look so you could try that or just leave a couple of bits out

If I'm using a large headband (i.e. a silk scarf) I tie my ponytail lower, and I only loop my hair through it halfway and I do it very loosely/messily, it balances well with the headband.

What type of headband are you using and what is your hair texture like?

same here! i look like a boy when i tie my hair. it's because i have high cheek bones & my chin's very pointy.

Why don't you pull your bangs forward kind of like this?

You could also go for a sleek look by combing your bangs (if long enough) to the top of your head and use wax/spray to hold the style. Secure the rest of your hair into a low ponytail and wrap a section of your hair around the start of the ponytail to hide the elastic.

Or maybe you just need some pomade to tame your side-swept bangs before securing with a hair band? I think the look posted above by siany sian looks very sweet

Just wanted to bump up this post.

Any more suggestions on how to look good in a headband with bangs pulled back by it? I never looked good without my side swept bangs so I'm guessing it's because of my large/high forehead (but I have a small face).

I have a side swept fringe and wear lots of hairbands, but I simply never pull them back and wear the band or silk scarf, kind of like post number 8, purely as decoration if that makes any sense. I like wearing side swept ponytails or plaits, I still just leave the fringe out. I have sort of wispy bits on the opposite side to my fringe too.

@ pinkpolo

I pinned my bangs back and they are short, blunt bangs so keeping them all under a bobby pin without that bobby pin ending up in the center of my head isn't tough. I just throw a headband on top. Nothing special about it at all!

Yes, that makes sense that the headband is merely for decoration purposes. I was hoping that I could pull off the headband look for its function (ie pushing hair/bangs back so it's doesn't get in your face).

@ Papa Levante -
Thanks for the tip!

Whew, I thought I was the only one who couldn't pull off the headband with bangs completely slicked back like most people can.

pinkpolo - If you just want to rock a headband for the heck of it, why not just leave your bangs out? Sweep 'em to the side, spray with a light hairspray to hold, then wear the headband where the bangs and the rest of your hair part.

If you just want the hair out of your eyes, but in a sleek & chic way, I suggest starting right out of the shower. Toss your head and blow dry your hair upside down, then upright and blow those bangs back. Alternate back and forth so you achieve both volume and direction. Then, you might consider flat-ironing your bangs backward so they lay that way too. Toss your head again and gather all your hair up in a high ponytail, leaving just the bangs out. Next, gather all of your bangs and pull them back taut by pinching the ends, but then ever so slightly pull them back towards your face, achieving a slight poof upward. Pin them down with two hair pins, each one going in opposite direction, making sure to weave them under the rest of your hair in an "over and under" way so they are hidden.
Then make sure to use a piece of hair from underneath the pony to wrap around the elastic band (secure with a pin) to finish the look. Done!
Remember, a high ponytail with volume/bump/poof is a great way to balance out lots of facial attributes, including a large forhead or nose! :flower:
