i-D Special Edition 01 2020 : Rihanna by Mario Sorrenti

Get rid of the "rihannazine" gimmick and I'm here for it. That is one hell of a beautiful, melancholic shot.

What a magnificent portrait! This is definitely my favorite Rihanna cover by far.
''Rihannazine'' was a choice indeed, should've just went for the good old ''guest edited by'' instead.

That's the new logo? Hate it. Looks very cheap, like a 'Only $5' type sticker. And I doubt their audience will respond to it because ID may be 'down with the kidzzz' but they flog expensive tat.
As for the image, it's very WSJ. Nothing technically wrong with that, but it doesn't stop me dead in my tracks and it's not timeless enough for a magazine that sits on the newsstand for a considerable amount of time. I think ID should be under more pressure to have arresting covers than say Vogue or Elle.

That's the new logo?

It's not new, probably just a temporary change. If I remember correctly they used this star sticker before on a couple of covers. I recall a Lady Gaga cover and some black and white Luigi & Iango portraits with Liya Kebede I think around 2011?

Rihannazine....

she looks sleepy. It's the type of image that needed to be in B&W else it wouldn't catch anyone's attention. Imagine this in color. Weak.

She is more versatile than a lot of models (supermodels included)...And she has a brand!
It’s beautiful... I guess we will get Rihanna for every magazine this year. I smell a September Issue cover for US Vogue...

The star logo is like an i-D legacy thing. It's from the 2nd issue of the magazine published back in 1980.

I imagine that this is what it looks like if Selena Forrest was able to emote.

Never noticed the resemblance before. Must be the hair.

Love the shots but hate the hair covering her eye in the first shot. Cant help but think of it getting in her eye! The second cover with her closing one eye looks odd due to the shadow and makeup. Makes her look like she has a black eye! The editorial on the other hand is marvelous!
