Interview August 2016 : Idris Elba by Craig McDean

One of the most iconic, gorgeous Interview covers of the 90s. NOW that's Interview at it's pinnacle in both content and visual excellence which hasn't been touched since.

I really wish we could still have striking images on magazine covers these days. Although, I can see sooo many complaints on a forum like this if a magazine did try something more "original" like that Denzel cover ("where's the fashion!?!?").

I'm totally weird in that I absolutely love the cover shot, think his facial hair is totally sexy!, but the editorial is completely mediocre and even corny (thought not remotely as cheesey as the W shoot Hiddleston did for his Bond campaign).

Agreed about the styling! I could choose those pieces with my eyes closed, but maybe there was some studio intervention? And don't even mention Tom Hiddleston in any context please, lol!!! The name alone turns my stomach.

Am I the only person who sees NOTHING in Idris? The cover and the ed do nothing for me

YES! Idris is such a talented (and incredibly hot, my I add) guy and it's a lovely surprise to see him featured here - as he has been quite overlooked in fashion mags the last few years.

He looks so good! I loved, love and will always love him!
He is handsome and has a nice body but i don't think the ed compliments it.

Maybe if those portraits were by I&V or MEISEL...It could have elevate the whole thing.

^Love it. Didn´t think that Patrick had any artistic ideas left in him... wonderfully surprised :)

So happy to see Idris on a major cover, especially on the cover of my favourite magazine. His editorial is a bit underwhelming, the styling is very basic and it seems like McDean didn't really know what to do with him. It's a bit stiff and awkward. The portrait shot on the cover , however, is absolutely gorgeous. He's so handsome and charismatic.

Love Demarchelier ed too. It's nice to see this side of him and Karl's styling is once again impeccable. Kiki is giving me strong Edie Campbell vibes here.

Did the fashion heads start taking Prozac? Or did the fashion gods send out a memo to 'step it up' this month? Love Idris by McDean, loving the Demarchelier editorial even more! My monthly budget allotment for magazines is going to be stretched this month but I don't mind.

Don't like any of the editorials, to be honest.

And Demarchelier's is a pretty weak knock of Meisel's "Shape and Cut" with Erin and Maggie.

Beat me to it! The cropped torso shots, the lighting, the focus on "avant-garde" fashions...the indoors location. It was the backdrop that really gave a sense of narrative to Meisel's story: the atelier with dummies laying around and the petites mains working. Here it's just any old building.

I disagree, I think "Inner Elegance" has a significantly different mood to it than "Shape and Cut". I like them both. Shape and Cut was more vibrant and, to me at least, had a bit of a twisted/disturbing undercurrent. Inner Elegance is more quite, more simple, and more elegant. Of course in the decades and decades of dozens of fashion editorials every month, there's bound to be some repeating themes. Black and white, simple styling, cropped shots.... none of those are exactly unique elements that could be claimed by any photographer. There's nothing new under the son. Art is always inspired by things the artist has seen before.

LOVE Demarchelier's ed. Truly amazing. Fresh cut is nice as well. overall, a good issue

This issue is perfectly ok but in serious need of a jolt of excitement. Give us some color at least.
