This photograph is a still of Sophia Loren's character in the 1964 Marriage Italian Style movie, which I'm using as a visual reference for a character design for one of my creative writing projects. Although I won't go into many details here as this isn't the place for that, the Loren inspired character is a peasant woman living in a medieval Europe inspired fantasy world.
Although I really love the hairstyle worn by Loren in Marriage Italian Style, I'm having some second thoughts of applying it to my character due to how high maintenance it seems. Especially considering the lifestyle that she is living and the lack of resources at her disposal. Is it possible for the hairstyle to be replicated without more modern products such as hairspray and curling irons? Or is that look entirely a child of 20th century technology and fashion trends?
