James Dean

^that just shows how great dean was. am i right, that he did improvised many scenes, he did like he felt to do...and directors were not so happy allways. hahah. he was brilliant.
think i might watch east of eden tonight <3<3<3

Oh yes, he did A LOT of improvisations until the guy who played the father, Raymond Massey, basically hated him for it  Granted, he was an old school actor while Dean was influenced by method/realistic acting. And because of that, there was some brewing animosity between the two actors, which was perfect to bring some realism to potray their estranged characters. In fact, Kazan encouraged that hatred and sometimes provoked them to hate each other more

Another scene where he improvised is when he was running around the bean field, hoping for the beans to grow ^_^ Also in a scene where he was supposed to read the Bible, he silently cursed in between the verses which totally enraged Raymond, who was a very pious man. His reaction of anger in the scene was real as well.

Oh gosh, I sound like such a nerd :glare: I used to be such a huge Deanologist

I LOVED THAT FIELD SCENE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and yeah, dean did get some anger because of his acting.
Am i right but in the scene where cal did go to abra one night and she was on the window and dean was outside of the window, i read that kazan gave him drinks because he did not really do that so well at first takes, or he was so nervous.
It is amazing how he was so insicure but really get alive infrot the cameras. He gave his all. everything.
and dean was really scared to play old guy in the giant because he tought that he would not do that well, so he asked the director cut him out as much as he could.
i tought he did fabolous job.
My favourite scene from giant was the one where jett found the oil and drove to see jordan and leslie, and he was all over in oil and bit drunken i guess. it was hilarious.
I read everything from dean, i have such a collection of books / postcards / pics from him (not a creepy way lol).

sorry, if my english sucks a bit. hahhah. hope you do understand it. but it is hard to write something i have so much to say, all the word just goes thru my head and my fingers do not write that fast!and if the subject is something i love, it goes all very dificult. hahha.

Aw your English is great! I understand every single word you posted

Yes, he was drunk in that scene with Abra! Apparently he got drunk really easily. I however find the scene to be totally awkward  Didn't really like how it turned out

That scene in Giant was brilliant!  And you know that scene where people were discussing about giving him money and he just looked so disinterested and he didn't really have many lines like everybody else and yet he totally stole the scene by tying a knot with a lasso in the end? Amazing!

But don't you think his scenes are just too short for a 3-hour movie? But I guess it's quality that matters, not quantity ;)

you are so sweet :)

the window scene is bit akward...but i think it was ment to be. since they liked each other. everytime i like someone i am akward with him.
Oh, i loved the lasso scene. it was brilliant! i did not concentrate for the other so much because my eyes were on james all the time.

i loved how he moved (especially in rebel withou case) it was all very...new. still new. there is no such an actor who does things as special (well, mabey johnny depp...).
i could talk about james all day long without getting bored. i have workmate who is about 55years old, and she has big crush on james. so i talk with her hahah.

AND HER SCENES IN the giant WERE TOO SHORT, all time i was wating james, then he came and then it was another scene. they looked so cute with elizabeth.
Have you seen the picture of james and elizabeth between takes, they were goofying around and elizabeth was standing on james knee? it was adorable.

and in the set of the gian, one of the actresses told that james was quite and liked to be alone, hard to get to know. but then they talked and james allways got his shirt to her that she could wash it, because other of the shirts (same kind) have got lost (and it was his favourite shirt)...so he trusted her about that. so cute. before his death he gave the shirt for her (he was going to see the race) and said (something like this) ´´keep it save´´ .sad.

oh i need to hurry at work. gosh.
so much to write about.again.

There's Brando and Montgomery Clift before him ;) But that's a whole new discussion...

And the discussion with a 55 year old lady is funny  I don't know who to talk to about Dean or classic actors in general, in real life! So glad you're in this thread

Yes, I've seen it ^_^ She doesn't really look like Elizabeth though, maybe that's her double?

That's really sad :( I think I saw that bit in a DVD extra. The safe driving commercial he did is also quite shocking, it's almost foretelling; "The life you save might be mine."

´´the life you save might be mine´´ it gives me chicken pumps when i think of it...
i need to search that picture again, because i was definetly sure it was elizabeth, and there was text next to it that it was james and elizabeth.

well, james totally adored brandon...but still i think that james had his own way... i can´t explane, but i see differences between brandon and james. We can talk about this but i don´t know if my english is good enough :D

Oh, i have to tell one thing about the 55year old woman, she told that she did not go to work for two weeks after jamed dead, because she was so sad. and she was working at movie theater and had real life sized james paper figure.awww.

my computer is broke and i lost ALL my pics, including james dean folder. f*ck. i did have amazing pics from him.

i did hear that there is movie done about james...??? would be interested to see.

and can´t tell how happy i am when i found other james fanatic, you <3

Thanks for the pics Jenna, I think he had a very adorable smile/laugh

About Brando and Dean; the comparison can be very tiresome but I love them both, for different reasons ^_^ I don't know if the discussion is appropriate in this thread, but if you want to talk about it you can message or PM me

Too bad about the lost pictures! But don't worry, you already have loads of them in your picturebook collection

The only biopic of Dean made thus far is with actor James Franco, and I personally think it was pretty fantastic! James did Dean justice. Maybe you can check it out ^_^

i need to check that franco movie. guess it was not real big success...

ok, now going crazy FOUND A BIG WALL POSTER OF JAMES DEAN, IT IS GOOORGEUS AND I GONNA BUY IT TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!
ahahah i got crazy when i saw it... ran all over the store. it saved my sucking day.
it´s gonna go in main wall of my new apartment (if my roommate will allow)

once again, needed to look james dean photo book. my heart almost melt.awwww.

mmm...it would be interesting to talk about dean / brandon-thing... as i also like brandon very much and he was one of the talentest actors.
so maeby i will PM...but now too tiared.

why can´t there be man like dean?!?!? it would be like dream. also i think past time men were more gorgeus and had more charm in them, than nowdays... mabey i just have met wrong men. bleh.

<3

^ I agree, men back in the 1950s/60's had a certain charm that cannot be emulated by todays actors

^ That scene with the father is truly hard to watch

It was actually improvised by Dean and the actor who played his father didn't know how to react. It was so powerful that Kazan decided to put it in the movie ^_^

I love that part...his portrayal was so amazing, only a truly talented actor could make such a simple scene so brilliant
