1,2,3,4... JAN TAMINIAU

jan-taminiau01.jpg

Dutch designer Jan Taminiau recently presented his seventh collection: 1,2,3,4… Taminiau collaborated with stylist Roel Schagen and artist Victor de Bie to create a world of his own, distanced from the fast world of glamour and back to the roots of craftsmanship and coziness. Yet this didn’t mean Taminiau didn’t show his ever present glamorous side. The fantasyful collection showed a beautiful variety of both daytime and nighttime pieces in vibrant red, gold, white, oxidized green, black and earthy tones, which especially excelled when Taminiau showed his true craftsmanship and eye for details. The designer, who comes from a family tradition of antique dealers, decorators and interior designers, explains it refers to the atmosphere of his youth. He combined this traditional chic such as paisley patterns with childish, fairytale elements such as the folded paper hats.

do silly or don't do silly

this guy got an awful lot of press for this collection in the netherlands,
and why? i've got no idea.

the collection looks inconsistent, bland and the styling is just awful. the hat looks ridiculous.

I was present at the show and liked it, for Dutch standards haha. I agree he gets lots of publicity but some pieces are really great, I am still looking for a complete show registration cause I don't think these shots give a good overview of the whole collection.

and with Dutch standards, I am talking about designers like Alexander van Slobbe (orson+bodil), G+N, percy, erik frenken, monique van heist, etc

:)

I kind of like the playful mood of this collection. This has been seen already, but it doesn't look bad.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent and say that I LOVE that black long-sleeved dress.

Not all Dutch design is that amazing when you skim away the hype. I am proud of some of the dutch achievements but when you put him in the corner of the more glamorous designers instead of the innovative/conceptual ones, he is one of the best. When you see the clothes in real person you can see his level of craftmanship, something that for example Daryl van Wouw or Monique van Heist can't do. I don't think Monique van Heist is an amazing designer, she does some smart things but it's nothing new. Percy is not much better than Taminiau and G+N is becoming a bore too. Love the recent designs by Spijkers & Spijkers though, and Bas Kosters for his energy and concepts.

Oh I'm looking forward to Erik Frenken's debut collection because his last graduation at CSM and his participation at ITS were amazing! Have you guys heard of Charlotte Albers? I love her work and I think she,Erik and Greek talent Angelos Bratis are probably the most promising of the Dutch scene.

As for this guy...I dunno. It's rather hit and miss to me as well.

he's working at viktor & rolf nowadays...

I love love Jan Taminiau.... he's the nephew to my boss and I had a chance to attend the show but I was unavaialbe, sadly :(

I have to agree... this is not his strongest collection, but still it's ok. I can't wait to see Erik Frenken be big as well... I predict he will be showing his own line in Paris within the next three years. I saw some of his work in Het Haags Gemeente Museum (The Hague) and I was blown away. So creative.
