I don't agree with her statement. The modeling industry changed, thus models are doing both print and runway since the mid 70s, but a supermodel is a model whom everyone knows about and who is successful in high fashion. That is, Twiggy, Lauren Hutton, Jean Shrimpton and Verushka before Janice. And possibly Beverly Johnson too. If it had been the custom for the print models to do runway at the time, they would have. Thus, to say that they are not supermodels is like saying that there were no color green before people put a name on it. Or to say that there were no superstars before television, although everyone knew and adored Garbo, Dietrich, Jean Harlow and Rudolf Valentino.
Having said that, I have to say that Janice could be the only ubermodel since she does high fashion, commercial fashion, fantastic tv appearances and writes excellent books (well, at least one). She's like a pop version of the renaissance (wo)man. And she's definitely the ultimate comeback queen for sure.
