Jayne Mansfield

She was the perfect person to be on the cover of Hollywood Babylon.

Her smile looks very unnatural in all those photos. And she does look rather unclassy for her decade. Does anyone know what movies are her claim to fame?

"The rest of her resume is fleshed out by a long string of unsuccessful flops paired with an unending campaign of self-promotion.She reveled in her position in Hollywood and basked in every experience ithad to offer, from the crass and crazy to the glamourous and glitzy"

Definatly sounds like a Hilton to me.

There was nothing at all unnatural about Jayne's personality, she was a very sweet and genuine woman by all accounts.

Since when is Paris Hilton an intelligent and hard working woman or a devoted mother? Since when did she rise to fame on her own accord? Or study acting and receive any acting awards? You can make the same comparison with almost any star who was a sex symbol, including Marilyn Monroe. The fact that Jayne was superseded by Marilyn in terms of fame makes some people believe they can dismiss her as second rate imitator without even having seen her in anything but photos.

Sadly the Pink Palace was demolished in 2002, here's a few more photos:

Especially the ones taken from the pool make me a bit sad, thinking how Mickey had basically built it himself, with the golden inscription "I love you Jaynie"... and there it is in ruins :(

Here's also the mondo film, The Wild, Wild World of Jayne Mansfield. It's a bit crazy, but in the end there are scenes from the Pink Palace, where Mickey is wandering alone and remembering Jayne after her death.

Yes, it's really unfortunate as it could have been a great tourist attraction if it had remained. It was one of the last surviving monuments of a long gone Hollywood era.

I loved 'The Wild, Wild World', it just shows what a fun and whacky sense of humour Jayne had and how accessible she was as a star. The only thing is that it's not her voice, but a woman's who dubbed her for a previous film. So most of the footage shown has nothing at all to do with Jayne.
