I know this is an old post, but I must have missed it somehow. I completely agree. Jayne may have been an exhibitionist in a way, but I certainly agree that it doesn't make her a Hilton. I love MM, but it's a shame some people just look at Jayne as a poor man's Marilyn. I don't get it. I know maybe only fans are aware of the kind of person Jayne was, but just looking at her, I think she was one of the most beautiful women of her time. (It was her beauty that struck me and got me interested in her as a person.) Anyway, I'm more shy, but I definitely look up to Jayne. Beautiful, intelligent, kind, hardworking, talented, stylish, etc., etc. She's a way better role model than the girls of today who are famous because of who their parents are or sex tapes. There was nothing at all unnatural about Jayne's personality, she was a very sweet and genuine woman by all accounts.
Since when is Paris Hilton an intelligent and hard working woman or a devoted mother? Since when did she rise to fame on her own accord? Or study acting and receive any acting awards? You can make the same comparison with almost any star who was a sex symbol, including Marilyn Monroe. The fact that Jayne was superseded by Marilyn in terms of fame makes some people believe they can dismiss her as second rate imitator without even having seen her in anything but photos.
