Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture F/W 2019.20 Paris | the Fashion Spot

Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture F/W 2019.20 Paris

It’s funny, almost a decade since i’ve bought a Gaultier piece and one of the piece is a blouse from his fw2008 collection...And here is almost a Couture version of that.
Very Hits/Misses...
While it’s still technically impressive, the styling and the belt gimmick is almost killing what could have been a great dress or suit.

I love the white suits on Anna C and Coco R, the simplicity of the clean black dresses, the fabulous short ombré dress with the feathers coat and the exquisite zebra gown worn with a white chapka.

It’s standard Gaultier, some great ideas but overall, not enough to rock my world.

Very irrelevant couture....so sad.

It's super ironic because he should be back to what he was doing for his Ready to Wear but the way he did it in the 90's. Very raw, quirky and bold. People are still obsessed about 90's Gaultier. His tatoo tops are holy grails among fashion connoisseurs.
All those Vetements, Off-White vibes people are liking now are just what Gaultier did 2 decades ago.

He's one of the greatest couturier still alive but he needs to feel what's happening outside his boudoir Rue Saint Martin....

I was thinking that he should relaunch his RTW but more on the Alaia formula: archives only.
He is super nostalgic and yes, he seems to live on a bubble...It’s weird because he is popular, his show is a success and all but everything has that kind of dusty feel around him.

Even the presentation of the show is boring.

Something about this makes me really sad. Perhaps it's because, like many are saying, is that he's stuck and if he just let go of trying to be JPG, it wouldn't look so tragic or dated. I'd love for him to find what JPG means today to the modern woman because this does not feel good.

This collection is missing his usual fun creations, you only see a glimmer of them towards the end.

I do agree with people who saying that collections need to have a vision and pave the way forward. Gaultier has made a name for himself and will go down in history but this feels rote.

I only appreciate a 3rd of the collection but those 20 or so looks that I do love are timeless Gaultier in my opinion. Some hits, quite a few misses, and a handful of downright tacky pieces but this vet has been going for a long time now. I'd rather look at this from a glass half full pov, always an inspiration to me regardless.

He hasn't evolved so much in the past years. Always the same.

I like the behind the scenes video though. His passion is contagious even if his collections today may not excite us the same way they did in the 90s.

Watching the video made me appreciate the clothes on their own.

it was wonderful to hear him talk about the pieces and made me dream about what I would possibly purchase if I was a couture client.
