www.jeremylaing.com: Canadian-born Jeremy Laing, 27, spent his childhood on an army base in Germany. He learned to sew at age 13 by watching his mother, and has been making clothes ever since.

Jeremy's self-taught method, which combines organic and geometric approaches to pattern making and construction, was honed while studying in Toronto, on exchange at Westminster University in London, and through an apprenticeship with Alexander McQueen. Following his apprenticeship, Jeremy worked freelance developing showpieces for five of McQueen's collections, demonstrating his strength in innovative pattern making, garment construction, and the use of textile to create form.

In Jeremy's view, garments are a sum of parts, all functioning in relation to one another and, ultimately, to the body. His collections often stem from his elaborations on simple principles of construction and form, drawing simultaneously from couture and tailoring traditions. Jeremy currently lives and works in Parkdale, Toronto.

I don't find any flow to this at all. And the fit is just bad.

Oh I see, it gets more tolerable towards the end, but the beginning is just "blech!"

Yes, it gets more tolerable with the colors, but that's about it.

This is horrible.. I found myself thinking, "I hope no one buys this crap". It's ill fitting and just :ugh:

for those of you who have seen the clothes in real life, will know that photos do not do the clothes justice. Because simplicity is one of the most important points that he tries to apply to his work, you really have to look at the samples to get the idea.

i think the collection is great.

^yeah I like it as well. The dresses, I especially think is nice..
IMO, he is one of the best designers from NYC ^_^

i actually think that the fit/cut here looks great... very thoughtful, and the shapes are innovative and fresh while still being very wearable... awesome palette... great collection imo!

actually, i might need that yellow dress... and the sort of egg-shaped white shirtdress...

I find this so lovely. I don't think the fit is bad, I think he's intentionally putting emphasis on the hips. In the 3rd pic of #5, I was like "OMG, that is the smallest waist I've ever seen!". Until I saw the white panels of course :P

completely agreed, pastry! i think his entire foundation is surrounded in innovative cutting and construction which is indeed why it's seems so simple. i really think he's part of this kind of brigade of sublime innovation that the likes of ralph rucci, maria cornejo and perhaps even tess giberson does so well.

Horribly fitting...?

These clothes are beautifully cut and sculpted. I also believe these shapes would work on many different body types if necessary proportions are taken into account. Jeremy is very talented. Love the prints, too... soo mesmerizing.

I usually like Laing, but this collection is a little boring... the ideas seem a little recycled.

Jeremy has been amazing me since I saw his spring/summer 2007 collection. I absolutely love the simplicity- his one is a dream  I think it's all you need to look great. I will always think that less means better
