John Casablancas, the man who changed the modelling industry, died today in Brazil. R.I.P

OMG... No. I'm so shocked that can't find the words... His impact into the industry is just tremendous, needless to say. RIP. My heart goes out to his nearest and dearest :( This is just so tragic.

Leonardo ... I can't find any information about this anywhere, to verify whether or not this is true.

Would you please post your source where you got this inforamtion?

Well, if he is dead I can't say I'll miss him.

I had similar thoughts when reading this. He was a sleazebag and I had very little respect for him because of what he did with his models, regardless of how much he is responsible for the whole supermodel era. I'm still curious to know what the cause of his death is, though.

He was sick, with cancer.

Here's something in English...

Elite Models' John Casablancas Dead at 71
John Casablancas, founder of Elite Models, died Friday after a long battle with cancer at the age of 71. For complete coverage, see Monday's WWD.

This. He was by all accounts a predator. His relationship with Stephanie Seymour was the height of pedophilia.

I really think we should always avoid rash judgements, but most especially in the wake of someone's death. I'm not asking anyone to make him an eulogy or to be in any other way hypocritical, but avoiding tactless / tasteless comments and showing some respect for the family of the deceased, if nothing else, doesn't seem too much too ask.

Anyway, RIP.
My thoughts are with his family, Julian most especially.

^Well he himself didn't respect his family with his actions.

Wow. I find it disturbing how people are glad he is dead. I understand he has done a lot of shady things but to be happy he is dead? That is pretty extreme. Most of us did not know him personally and even if we did, to feel a sense of positivity about his passing is a bit overboard.

Anyways, he is gone now. Nothing more to say or do. I send my condolences to his close friends & family.

I agree with Pink Couture. No matter what he has done, his friends and family are mourning ... and we should feel bad about that. And we should acknowledge that he did leave a huge impact on the fashion industry ... and some of it was positive.

And thank you, to everyone who posted a source to confirm this.

Here's why rash judgements based on hearsay are never a good idea.

Yeah well I still stand by what I said.

Nothing wrong with having an opinion; using it to justify frankly tasteless comments in the wake of someone's death when one's not even familiar with all sides of the story is what I object to.
