Jon Kortajarena: "La moda te limita a ser la herramienta de otro"

Es uno de los hombres que más suspiros arranca en todo el mundo, incluso de Madonna, si los rumores son ciertos, y en persona no hace sino ganar puntos por su dulzura. Un día estaba trabajando para Tom Ford (Gucci) cuando éste le propuso salir en una película, la primera del diseñador. Del dicho al hecho. Jon Kortajarena, nuestro modelo más internacional –con permiso de Andrés Velencoso– se plantó junto a Colin Firth (nominado al Oscar este año) en 'Un hombre soltero', que se estrena este viernes.
¿Verse como actor le ha pillado por sorpresa?
Era una de esas cosas que se me había pasado por la cabeza y que me apetecía un montón, pero he estado muy centrado en la moda y por momentos lo he ido aparcando. De repente ha surgido esta oportunidad increíble, que es un regalo, y se ha convertido en una de las cosas más bonitas que me ha pasado.
¿Cómo ha surgido?
Estaba haciendo fotos para Tom Ford (Gucci) y me dijo que tenía pensado hacer una película, algo muy personal, muy suyo, y que quería que estuviera allí. No me quise hacer ilusiones, por si acaso al final decidía no contar conmigo, pero unas semanas después me llamaron para que fuera a Los Angeles a una audición y allí mismo lo decidieron.
Y se pone en la piel de un chapero…
Sí, es una especie de James Dean chapero con mucho encanto. No es un chapero oscuro del tres al cuarto, tiene algo que le hace brillar mucho más. Me pareció muy atractiva esa contradicción: un chapero ingenuo… Ha sido un gran reto que me ha supuesto nuevos retos, porque me ha hecho darme cuenta de que aquí hay muchas más cosas que quiero investigar.
¿Se preparó para interpretar?
Tenía mucho miedo y quería hacerlo bien, pero también me pidieron que no lo preparase mucho porque no querían que perdiera esa frescura que tiene el personaje, esa luz y ese encanto que tiene su acento español. Incluso comete ciertos errores de pronunciación que a ellos (el equipo de la película) les parecía muy mono, como la manera en la que pronuncio “James Dean”. Decía esto tal y como me salía y ellos se reían mucho.
Y Colin Firth practicó su “español” con usted…
Sí, fue muy divertido, porque él tenía que decir unas frases en español y no sabía lo que significaba, y yo se las traduje. Me preguntaba: "¿se me entiende, de verdad?" Y yo le animaba.
¿Qué impresión se ha llevado de él?
Tenía mucho miedo de los prejuicios que él pudiera tener hacia mí, alguien que no tiene experiencia. Pero me presenté como lo que soy, y cuando me di cuenta de que no tenía ningún perjuicio y que pensaba que esto era un trabajo de equipo y que teníamos que hacerlo juntos, me dio un montón de seguridad. Si él tenía claro que yo podía hacerlo, con todas las tablas y el talento que tiene, ¿por qué iba yo a dudar? También tuvimos una conexión muy buena, hubo muy buen rollo.
¿Qué pensó en el primer pase de la película?
Pensé que era la historia de amor más bonita que había visto nunca, me emocioné un montón. La verdad es que aunque tengo un papel muy pequeñito estoy muy orgulloso de haber salido en ella, y ha sido una experiencia muy bonita y no me importaría repetir. La película es muy especial; habla de amor en el estado más puro, yo soy así también. Así que me toca mucho. Yo soy muy de impulso. Tom ha arriesgado mucho al hacer una historia de amor de una pareja homosexual, pero ésta es una circunstancia que pasa a segundo plano, no tiene importancia.
¿Qué le pone más nervioso: desfilar para Calvin Klein o el sonido de la claqueta?
Me impone mucho más la claqueta (risas). En el mundo de la moda me siento más seguro, aunque no desarrolla muchas inquietudes, es muy limitada a nivel personal. Pero haciendo la película estaba emocionado, podía ser parte del proceso. En la moda eres una herramienta para el trabajo de otro. Aquí se desarrolla la creatividad, tu manera de expresar con el cuerpo lo que pasa por tu cabeza, tu capacidad de escuchar y comprender las cosas. Son cosas que me han llenado de luz.
Te esfuerzas para que las cosas pases, pero la vida te dirige"¿Le ha despertado la inquietud de seguir por ese camino?
Tengo claro que soy modelo, y he luchado mucho para llegar aquí, y quiero seguir trabajando en la moda. Pero es verdad que a nivel personal, cuando necesitas crecer, la moda tiene muchas limitaciones y de repente con la interpretación te encuentras que no hay limitaciones.
¿Dentro de 10 años como se ve, como modelo o actor? Porque sabemos que ser modelo tiene caducidad...
Ni idea, igual me veo de carpintero, porque en la vida intentas luchas por cosas que crees que te van a hacer feliz y al final, cuando las consigues, te das cuenta de que no te están haciendo feliz. En cambio cosas que ni te esperaban te hacen el hombre más feliz del mundo.
¿También le ocurre eso en el terreno personal?
Claro, muchas veces no esperas hacer una vida en pareja y entonces conoces por casualidad a una persona y de repente se convierte en alguien superespecial. Creo que hay una parte en la que tú te esfuerzas para que las cosas pases pero en otra parte importante la vida te dirige. ¡Veremos qué tiene la vida para mí!

Jon Kortajarena, the young model and actor from Bilbao, invited us in the program to watch "The single man", his début in the cinema of the hand of his fetish creative, Tom Ford.
