Katayone Adeli was dubbed the “Stella McCartney of New York,” someone who Polly Mellen believed was “the future” and made “the clothes I work in, can count on.” Adeli came from an Iranian family and grew up in Los Angeles. She made pants that were regularly worn by cool girls, fashion girls alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Ricci, and Lucy Liu, best known for their absolutely perfect fit. Alongside the pants and jeans, her collections included tiny cashmere sweaters, going out tops, cropped leather jackets, and long chiffon dresses. Her pants were worn far below the belly button and close to the body, they had a subtle flare and straight leg. In today’s money, they’d retail between $250-$800.

Then she closed her label in 2003..

Philip Lim used to work for Adeli. I remember when he first started, his style was describe as romantice as Chloe.

I was just reading US Vogue Nov 2006 issue and there is an article about her relaunched label (back then), a collaboration with Seven called K.A.7. I think it didn't last long as well...

Somehow I am thinking about Collette Dinnigan. Her style was very similar in early 00's. Now she quits fashion designer and sells bedlinen and table plates..
