Can you tell us a little bit about your charity work? What makes you so passionate about it?
Part of being a full-time model means having pockets of free time that no other career could possibly allow. What a model does with his or her free time shapes their life. For a while I would spend my time wandering throughout the city. Being the energetic girl I am, I searched for activities that were time filling and, more importantly, fulfilling. Eventually, I became an honorary member of NYU’s Newman Club, a Catholic youth group, and the community of Sant’Egidio, a worldwide service community. Through Newman I found a weekly soup kitchen that usually serves around 500 people in a few hours.

In addition, my friend invited me to play and coach a disabled children’s little league team on Saturdays. With Sant’Egidio I visit Cabrini nursing home for weekly prayer and make portable meals for the homeless to distribute around Grand Central Station. Before I started working with the homeless, I was oblivious to their existence. Most of the people I meet are simply down on their luck, sick, or stuck in a perpetual state of poverty. The elderly, disabled, and impoverished are the same as anyone else. They have stories, hearts, and smiles all worth witnessing. When I “serve” these people, I am really serving myself. If anyone is a Friends fan, they may recall the episode that debates the existence of a selfless good deed. Joey was right. There really is no such thing as a selfless good deed

Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Five years from now I would like to be happy doing what I love, surrounded by people I love. I can’t predict God’s plan for me!

What was the last movie you watched? Did you enjoy it?
In theaters I recently saw 21 Jump Street. Unless you have a horrible condition that may cause you to die from laughing too hard, I highly advise getting your stressed-out butt to the movie theater! Honestly, I cannot remember laughing that hard for that length of time. There were no lulls, just constant hilarity from Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. I felt like I worked out a 6-pack of abs after the movie and was completely dumbfounded how it could possibly have been as funny as it was! I’m seeing The Avengers soon with a few of my friends, but I doubt it can touch those unfortunate cops!

What is your favorite genre of music? What are your favorite songs of the moment?
This is one area of my life I’m ashamed to say I completely fail. I’m so lazy, I just listen to the oldies station when I’m in the car at home in St. Louis and my phone which I haven’t updated since 2008. I just like good music whatever the genre.

How would you describe your personal style?
I’m only going to talk about summer because during winter if you see me, I’m bundled in so many sweaters, scarves, and parkas, it’s depressing to think about! When it’s warm enough to start caring what I look like, I love girly 50′s dresses, my grandma’s jewelry, and flats. If I’m in timeless mood, I love classic cut silk shirts and skirts. When I’m just hangin’ I’m always in classic bootcut jeans, a t-shirt, leather jacket and sneakers. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

On your twitter, you seem to be quite the chef. What is your favorite dish to make? Favorite type of cuisine?
I love cooking because of how intensely interactive it is. Preparing a meal with fresh, seasonal, local ingredients becomes a fun game that reminds me of what my great-grandmother may have had to work with. Imagine a time when a person could only enjoy winter root vegetables, springtime asparagus, berries in the summer, or pumpkins in the fall. One of my favorite ways to spend a day is shopping at the local farmer’s market.

Oftentimes I just pick up whatever is nicely priced and looks delicious. If it’s bok choy I’ll make Chinese and if it’s baby eggplant I’ll go Thai, but most of the time I stick to my roots: classic American with a Mediterranean influence. My heritage is half Irish with a German grandmother and an Italian grandmother on my mom’s side. Let’s get real: Italian cuisine is the clear winner. For Christmas I love sticking with tradition and making potato gnocchi with my mom with a recipe that has passed generation upon generation. I’ve never been allowed to make the dough, but I’m a heck of a roller! Also, I am just realizing I haven’t mentioned the most important thing about my palate: if it’s dessert, it’s chocolate. ‘Nuff said!

Do you have a beauty routine that you follow? Can you give us any beauty tips?
Every woman has her own beauty regimen, and personally, I wash my face twice a day with Cetaphil in the morning and a sulfur wash in the shower. I only moisturize if my skin feels tight or if I’m putting makeup on (which is rare!). I like Dove body wash and highly recommend investing in a quality shampoo and conditioner. I’m cheap on many things, but waking up to a fro is something I can easily avoid with the right up-keep!

Recently, my dentist will be happy to know, I got in the routine of flossing and rinsing every morning with Listerine (Crest stains!). I have to take care of my pearly whites because 90% of my life is either talking, laughing, or smiling. If I’ve got a casting or want to have a little pep in my step, I’ll curl my lashes and use a little mascara. My lashes are very long, but stubbornly straight. I find that curling first with my Shu Uemura curler sets them for the day. Other than this, I just make sure to drink plenty of water, get loads of sleep, and keep myself well-nourished.
