Humberto Leon and Carol Lim adopted a tribe mentality for pre-fall, designing for a cult that’s all about individual expression. The collection was a wardrobe for the psychedelic urban nomad, fiercely layered in prints, robust coats and furry footwear. “Kenzo was always about celebrating this nomadic tribe and we wanted to create our own community,” said Leon.
Some looks were relatively clean, such as a crisp white shirtdress layered with a ribbed-knit panel of a vest. Others featured a frenzy of pattern — some inspired by language and symbolism — colorful tribal motifs and oversize parkas trimmed in fluorescent fur. The bold volumes, big color and ample texture provided a visual feast, and the fuzzy faux fur-printed jacquard coats and orange fur clogs really caught one’s eye.
