WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN:
Globetrotting designer Kim Jones is bringing his next Dior men’s show to Egypt.

The men’s pre-fall collection is scheduled to be unveiled on Dec. 3 against the backdrop of the pyramids of Giza near Cairo, the brand said in a statement provided exclusively to WWD. “Designed by Kim Jones, the celestial collection celebrates a lifelong passion for travel,” it added.

Dior last year resumed its pre-coronavirus tradition of traveling men’s pre-fall collections with a show in London. Jones previously staged pre-fall runway displays in Miami and Tokyo. The British designer has a long-standing relationship with the African continent, having spent his childhood years in Botswana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Ghana.

The son of a hydrogeologist, Jones continues to travel the globe to gather inspiration and see rare and exotic animals in their natural habitat. He is passionate about conservation, sponsoring a number of endangered species including the pangolin and the douc langur monkey.

Founder Christian Dior was also known for his international outlook, establishing global subsidiaries shortly after launching his house in 1947. By the mid-1950s, the Dior empire included eight companies and 16 affiliates, and employed 1,700 people on five continents, according to the International Directory of Company Histories.

This will mark the first time Dior has staged a show in Egypt, following events in Italy, Greece, Spain, South Korea, China, the U.K. and the U.S. in recent years. The French fashion house’s spring 2004 haute couture collection, designed by John Galliano, was a tribute to Ancient Egypt.

Dior and Denim Tears’s Tremaine Emory to reveal capsule collection in Cairo
Kim Jones is teaming up with Denim Tears founder and Supreme creative director Tremaine Emory for a new co-designed collection.

Dior Men’s artistic director Kim Jones is teaming up with Denim Tears’s founder and creative director of Supreme Tremaine Emory, in the latest crossover between streetwear and luxury.

Dior will reveal a new capsule collection guest-designed with Denim Tears during an event at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo on 2 December. “This line celebrates the inventiveness of the house of Dior and the strength of its creative dialogues,” Dior said in a laconic statement.

Jones’s previous guest designer was Californian designer Eli Russell Linnetz of Californian-based brand ERL. They presented their capsule as part of the resort show against the backdrop of the Los Angeles beachfront. Jones, a master of collaborations, has previously also joined forces with the likes of Sacai, Kaws and Daniel Arsham. In 2017, as Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director, Jones also oversaw the brand’s iconic collaboration with Supreme.

The new tie-up with Emory demonstrates the hold streetwear still has on luxury, five years on from when Supreme’s logo plastered Louis Vuitton bags. Emory, who has worked with Virgil Abloh and Kanye West, now known as Ye, founded Denim Tears in 2019 and joined Supreme in February. His brand is no stranger to collaborations: Denim Tears worked with Levi’s in 2020 on pieces adorned with a cotton wreath print, in a nod to his African American background; and Ugg in 2022.

The event will take place on the eve of Dior's pre-fall 2023 menswear show at the Pyramids of Giza at Al Haram. According to HSBC estimates, sales of Christian Dior Couture surged to €8.8 billion in 2022.

Anyone who bothers to fly everybody to an exotic, far-away location to present a collection of throwaway retail clothes should be considered an environmental criminal. Sustainability my ***. What would be sustainable is designing something worthwile, something that doesn't look like it was picked up off the Zara floor. And anyone who buys into this stupidity presented as some form of upper class luxury clothing should go see god, cause they've lost it.

And on top of all that, it's not even good looking. DIORTEARS is right, I cry tears of despair at the sight of this decay.

This whole new dior colection is only good bc they recycled johns themes and ideas from nearly 20 years ago atp. Will dior ever be able to escape john ?

Back onto Kim. There is no way hes going to stay at Fendi. I dont understand why they didnt give him all of Givenchy and let someone else do Dior men. Its not like DH is giving anything. The stuff in store is tacky logo wear, Hedi leftover suits, frumpy shoes and dumb KJ suits that wil go to outlet.

again the best thing in DH is the saddle bag which - again - John Galliano.

marc at fendi makes perfect sense especially because he created so many iconic bags at LV

No mention of the performances of Fendi, except for the opening of the stores in the recent financial reports of LVMH.
Of course the brand is profitable as all the brands so far but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it’s not doing that well…

‘You know, what you said makes perfect sense in a way to give Givenchy to Kim Jones because the brand is a lost cause at this point and he will deliver commercial, sellable clothes in a way…Will it sell is another question.

‘I really think he should concentrate on Dior Homme tbh. Obviously doing Fendi and Dior does nothing for either of those brands….

…and bumped below Loewe too in the pecking order. Probably still earning more than Loewe but not growing much. No shoutout of him too for Fendi. Which I find weird with all the marketing money they’re pouring with the individual product campaigns and couture shows. Not to mention the collabs.

Opened this thread praying he’s finally getting out of Fendi but no. Yes, Givenchy could be good but if results are to be considered it doesn’t bode well for him that he fumbled his womenswear debut. He (LVMH too) probably thought he’d get Dior womenswear.

Actually I think it is doing very well along with Loewe and Celine.

I - too - thought that this was an interview for Dior womenswear. He's definitely not getting Dior womenswear now.
