Kim Noorda

haha, I really thought I was missing something last night. Glad to see I'm not alone.

I really couldn't understand how fault could be found with Kim's candids/polaroids... which is why I kept probing. Anyways, I wanted to say something about Kim's shyness yesterday while the conversation was ongoing but I figured that argument would get chewed up. In any case, I absolutely agree with everything you said, cestmagique!

I totally understand and respect if someone disagrees with me or is not seeing the same thing, but the response seems to be (paraphrased) "I disagree... but yeah she can emote more... well she is kinda shy" So it seems like I am not alone in what I am seeing rather excuses are being made. Also for the record, the backstage photos that I am referring to are the beauty photos and those are not candids. I did not say that she needed to be the life of the party and I do see "it" in some of her pictures but in too many I do not. Kim has been modeling for quite some time and left for a while to finish school, so presumably she is intelligent and a person of substance and this is not some insurmountable challenge; I think she has "it" in her, she just needs to be able to reflect "it" in a higher percentage of the photos she takes. Again, I say this as someone who I would to like to see her as the face of Lancome, Estee Lauder or another major cosmetics brand sooner rather than later.

For me (one of) the appeals of the Kimster is that she is very within herself. She doesn't let it all hang out like many other models. Instead she retains an elusive, enigmatic quality that I for one find really attractive. She gives you that little Mona Lisa smile and you can't help wondering what she's thinking about. I believe that is one of the reasons she has remained at the top of her field for such a long time. You never think you know her, but you'd love to get to know her.

^^But you're the one saying that her emoting and shyness are negatives, whereas I (and I guess others too) are saying that those things are part of her appeal. She does emote quite a bit but not in the super ebullient, spunky, or moody way that other girls have; she's more moderate, more internalized, and we see little hints of emotion from her rather than very obvious displays. For her to become what you're talking about, she'd need a total personality change. The sorts of girls that get Lancome and Estee Lauder contracts are the ones that are A) higher profile than Kim and B ) have the spokesmodel persona. So no, we aren't making excuses for her, we just see her differently than you do.

sbey-- That's exactly how I feel as well.

The new faces of Esprit SS10
Thursday, 03 December 2009

Lifestyle label Esprit is revamped featuring Daisy Lowe as the fresh new face of edc by Esprit, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld for Esprit’s Casual range. Both models are captured with a young vibe in an edgy environment.

Daughter of vocalist Pearl Lowe and Bush front man Gavin Rossdale, Daisy Lowe began modelling at the age of 2 and was signed to Select model management by the age of 15. She has since appeared in titles such as Italian Vogue, Elle, GQ, Marie Claire, Grazia and Sunday Times Style, and has become a celebrity in her own right. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is the daughter of Carine Roitfeld, Editor-in-chief of French Vogue. Since graduating from the School of Design in NYC in 2006, Julia has made a name for herself as a socialite and muse to Tom Ford.

Both the ranges have their own place in the campaign with a slightly more grown up feel fronted by top models Kim Noorda, Leticia Birkheuer and Jon Kortajarena. The result is a campaign which plays on Esprit’s heritage, highlighting the classic laid back look.

Esprit began in California by founders Susie and Doug Tompkins who whilst travelling sold their hand-made product from the back of their station wagon. Nowadays, Esprit Holdings Limited generates a worldwide group turnover of around HKD 34.5 billion (as of 30.06.2009), with net profits of around HKD 4,745 million. The Group operates more than 800 directly managed retail stores worldwide and distributes its products via more than 14,000 wholesale locations around the globe.

Here's the ad. Is she the one wearing short khaki?

Nah.... no way!

Would Espirit (or any brand for that matter) be advertising their S/S lines already? I'm looking around the Espirit site and it appears that they still have their winter line up.

I agree with this comment that "we just see her differently than you do," note that when this discussron began the context was beauty contracts and not modeling in general; so the point is well taken if your thing is to have Kim be this niche model with a small but loyal following, thus if others see her career taking a different direction, so be it.

I have stated more than once that I am not referring to characteristics like "super ebullient or spunky" those traits are more associated with mass market brands like CoverGirl and not the brands I referenced - Estee Lauder and Lancome. I don't follow all of these models closely, but I don't recall seeing terms like "super ebullient or spunky" associated with Carolyn Murphy, Daria Webowy, Hilary Rhoda or Arlenis Sosa Pena. I don't agree that it would take a "total personality change" nor that all of the models had a higher profile at the time of their first contracts, of the ones that I mentioned, I think that may have applied to Carolyn Murphy and Daria, but I am not sure if it applied to Arlenis and Hilary.

I think that the "spokesmodel" persona refers to being well spoken and I have seen a video of Kim when she first started out where she was very, very well spoken, which was even more impressive considering her age at the time and that the interview was in English and I will also throw in, that to my pleasant surprise, in the video she did show quite a bit of personality and charisma. If she can translate that into a higher percentage of her pictures that would be great. And on that note, I will state again what I said more than once, it is not that "it" is never, ever there, "it" just needs to be there in a higher percentage of her pictures. I will conclude by saying, because I think that I have sufficiently made my point, is that I wish Kim success in whatever direction that she and her agents want to take her career.

ETA:
Re the campaigns, campaigns are being filmed now and while they have not appeared in magazines some of them are on the internet, It does appears that some of the beauty campaigns, namely the perfume ones may be out, probably in order to get the Christmas traffic. There is a sub forum on campaigns, a thread dedicated to SS2010 campaign activity and then when a campaign actually comes out a separate is created.

@agee
Can we just end this conversation? Please! I'm sick of it already. As was previously stated, we see Kim differently. End of.

Back to Espirit
I hope the source I posted last night is correct regarding Kim's involvement in the campaign. Does anyone here know anything about Fashion United? In other words, are they typically reliable?

Did you read the last sentence of my previous post, the part before the ETA statement? :ermm:

Yes I did. Mine was a general statement... for everyone. I @replied you because you were the last person to say something. But it was meant for everyone including myself. So let's just drop this and be merry :)

Anyways, would you (or anyone else) happen to know what Kim studied in school? Oh, and where did she attend college?

I really don't know why Kim doesn't have a beauty contract yet.She is such a stunning classical beauty, and those EYES! I mean how come Cocoa Rocha has that YSL contract and Kim nothing? It's simply RIDICULOUS!
