First scouted at Hackney Underage Festival whilst hanging-out with his mates and checking-out girls, fresh-face Kingi Gift still struggles with understanding how ‘the model thing’ happened. Always prepped for the next big party, this spritely, aspiring musician doesn’t take life too seriously and goes mad for a spot of Spiderman. Forever falling in love, Kingi’s greatest wish is to kiss Natalie Portman and if he were to write to a lonely hearts column he would describe himself as a “fun-loving, responsible guy who’s in touch with his feminine side and good with kids.” Swoon. How did you feel when you woke up and looked in the mirror this morning? Tired, so so tired. And hungry.
How important are your looks to you? My appearance used to be really important to me, I’ve gotten over all that stuff now though, hopefully. It’s way too much hassle to care and when it comes down to it, socially who really cares?
How has modelling changed your life? Apart from being a pretty handy chat-up line to drop once in a while, not much. It’s much harder juggling school and modelling, let me tell you. Sitting in maths while getting emailed about castings is painful!
Where do you enjoy hanging out? Anywhere there’s fun stuff to be done. I’m slowly getting back into skateboarding after about a three-year break so that’s turning into a common pastime. Only problem is whenever I go skating I end up with a new scar. Playing my guitar and working on band stuff is always good. I’m usually up for partying but to be honest a day spent watching cartoons indoors can be almost as appealing.
Where in the world would you like to travel to? EASY! It has to be New York. I’ve been MAD on Spiderman ever since I can remember and it still seems like some cartoon magic superhero place!
What kind of music are you into? The last thing I listened to was probably ALL of Asher Roth’s mixtape. Download that shizz whoever you are, it really IS off the chain. I saw The Vaccines at HMV Forum in Kentish Town the other week, that was mad good! My mate called me up as the gig started and I literally sprinted the whole way from Holloway, must have been panicking because the idea of a bus didn’t really cross my mind.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Look left. Look right. Look left again. Saved my life at least four times.
What is your happiest memory? Running around on my fourth birthday butt naked and throwing my newly acquired Buzz Lightyear toy at different people.
Are you in love? With someone different every week. Well smitten anyway. But yeah there was a pretty big one at some stage. Ha ha no names. It was all due to about seven late-night texts. She knows who she is.
Who is the most beautiful girl you’ve ever kissed? I didn’t get a name.
What’s next for you? “Money money money girls girls cash cash”. I try and be optomistic (quote Dizzee Rascal).
