Kirsi Pyrhonen

I'm a new subscriber - I love the Scandinavians! Everyone is always talking about how tall she is and how she has got really large feet... I haven't been around this thread long; how tall is she? How big ARE her feet, hah? I have big feet, too

She is like 184 cm tall, could be taller  and her feet are size 42, if I remember correctly.

Oh... that's not that big! Do agencies/designers really not like feet that big? It seems like a lot to ask for a 184 cm girl to have smaller feet!!!

I think that designers often order shoes before a show is cast and unless they have a particular girl in mind already (like Kirsi) and know that she is an unusual size they order the shoes in common sizes (39-40 range) much like the clothing they design being sewn in sample sizes (which is why models body measurements are so strict? important?) the girl has to fit the garment w/ only minor alterations needed... same w/ shoes.

^But shoe size 42 isn't just unusual, it's a size that often isn't produced in women's shoes at all therefore I can definitely see why it's a problem. :(

I really like her fall beauty pics, she looks stunning!

Kirsi Pyrhonen, the 5-foot-11.5″ Finnish stunner is a rare sighting in New York, not only because she looks unusual and almost elfish with her cherry puckered lips and slanted eyes (and towers above everything and everyone on the street), but mostly because she is always busy elsewhere. When she’s not shooting in Europe with Testino, i-D or any of the Vogues, she’s at school or at home with her parents just outside of Helsinki, or walking her dog at their summer retreat in the middle of the country. So when I found out she was in town, I snagged her in between castings for a one-on-one with Joos.
NATALIE JOOS How old are you?
KIRSI PYRHONEN Seventeen, turning eighteen in December.
NJ Are you a Capricorn?
KP What is a Capricorn? I’m the one who shoots his arrow.
NJ Ah, you’re a Sagittarius. Are you interested in astrology?
KP Not really, but sometimes I read the horoscopes in my mom’s magazines and I think “This is silly” but then there’s truth in it somehow. A few years ago I read my horoscope on my birthday and everything that was written, was happening that day. We had a really good laugh about it.

NJ What do u like to do for fun in Finland?
KP During summer I like to go sailing. I hang out with my friends and family—I don’t get to see them that often. We go to our summer house. It’s located somewhere in the middle of Finland, in the middle of nature. It’s really quiet; there’s very few people around. I might be walking my dog and not see a single person for miles.
NJ Do you like the city?
KP I like the city too. I like the energy. It’s crowded, but there are so many different cultures here. What’s amazing is that you can walk for a few blocks and be in a totally different cultural hub.

NJ How are New Yorkers different from Finnish people?
KP Finnish people are more shy and modest. New Yorkers are more social. When I’m jogging people will cheer me on! It’s kind of inspiring.
NJ How did you become a model?
KP I was discovered at IKEA when I was 13 years old. My mother agent found me but my mom said I was too young to model. I always kept it in the back of my head though. Then a few years later, my mother agent found me again on IRC-Gallery, it’s like Facebook but just for people living in Finland. And I decided to go for it. I told my mom I was going to the city and the rest is history.
NJ What is the best thing about modeling?
KP Traveling, meeting new people, seeing different places, working on the best shows…. The feeling you get when you’re on top of your game is amazing.
NJ I know you have exceptionally large feet. Has that ever gotten in the way of your career?
KP Let me tell you, Vaseline is my best friend during the shows. I could not walk in those shoes without Vaseline. When people ask me if I enjoy the shows, I say yes but have them imagine the pain I’m in standing and walking in shoes that are two sizes too small for half an hour. It’s really painful.

yes i feel so bad for her with her large feet :( i didn't know vaseline helped!

I thought it was funny how they started with "I know you have exceptionally large feet..." :P but, yea, that is really unfortunate.

42 is not that big lol!!! She's over 6' tall, it's perfectly proportionate. :P

Size 42 is not that big at all. Maybe for an average woman but an average woman is usually only 5'5 or something... I'm 6'1 and my feet are size 39 and everyone always says how tiny my feet are. I guess models just are meant to have tiny feet.

Must be so painful though! Makes me wince :(

^^She didn't do any HC shows...I don't know why, I'm actually kind of sad about it haha.

Oh well that kinda makes sense, like all others in Finland who goes to highschool now for the third year, she has her big exams coming up that will determine her future schooling. And the sooner she gets out of Highschool, the sooer she can do all the Highshows :D
