Lakshmi Menon

i wonder which models is lakshmi friends with!
i think it would be so cool if her n jourdan were friends!

She's on fire. I completely expected her to go the distance and now she is fulfilling every single hope. Her season was great, the campaigns are promising and US Vogue? Whoa. Amazing.

Also it looks like US Vogue is undergoing a model revamp. :shifty: of course they never go and shock us by putting all the spectacular new girls in one issue but if you look at some of the recent bookings - Maryna, Lakshmi, Anna J, Jourdan, etc.

Times they are a changing :buzz:

yes they are!!
it would be amazing if she actually got the cover...
but then again..us vogue covers are reserved for celebrities..lol

I'm so so so happy for her, I just want her to do amazing for some reason, it's like Ujjwala's been resurected, and Lakshmi is picking up where Ujjwala left off. I hope her career soars, she totally deserves it plus she seems very articulate and down to earth, so of couse I love her.

i hope she does become the reigning indian supermodel!!
i used to love ujjwala...but she disappeared after she gave birth to her daughter!

i was so sad :(

but now lakshmi is there!!! yay

I sort of see it the same way, she has definitely picked up where Ujjwala left off.
The only difference is when Ujjwala was big in modeling she did way more runway than Lakshmi
However Lakshmi has had more campaigns than Ujjwala. Well atleast as far as I remember.

They also had designers who sort of launched their careers for Ujjwala it was Emanuel Ungaro (I believe she was the bride in quite a few of his Couture collections) than Tom Ford, and for Lakshmi, Riccardo Tisci.

But then again the whole designers launching a model into the big league doesn't happen too infrequently.

It's true Lakshmi probably after this coming season will have done more campaign work than Ujjwala ever did. I think Ujjwala's biggest claim there was a Dolce & Gabanna campaign with Stam, Eugenia, Julia and Yasmin.
If her runway work picks up next season she will undoubtedly become the biggest Indian model since Yasmeen Ghauri in the 90's.:D

Ujjwala also did a campaign for Yves St. Laurent cosmetics, I think that is pretty big time as well.

Anyway back to Lakshmi.^_^

anyway i hope that this will make indian modeling agencies...look for more high fashion girls..coz right now the indian model market is quite...boring..
everyone looks the same...
dusky skin...curly hair..commercial

lakshmi since day 1 stood out for mke coz of her beautiful bone structure and her versatility..pluz she has a HOT BOD!!lol

hopefully.. indian model searches...like "get gorgeous" ,elite model look, gladrags (i'm not mentioning miss india..coz they honestly look from the same commercial WORLD PEACE ****!..although ujjwala was in miss india, she made it without any of their help!) will aim to find more high fashion girls..who can make it internationally!

Sales are down, time for an old dog to learn new tricks if you ask me! ^_^

LAKSHMI FOR THE COVER OF VOGUE!!! LISTEN UP ANNA!!

lakshmi on the cover of vogue would be heaven .

wow!!
does anyone know which show was the first look from in debora's post ^
(with the white coat and the high waisted striped pants?)

Actually, I would say JPG really started her off (he started using her for his Hermes/ JPG lines back in SS 06, and then, obviously gave her the Hermes campaign for SS 08), but I would agree that since she opened the Givenchy FW 08 couture show and stared in the Givenchy RTW FW 08 campaign, her career has really started to take off in impressive new directions!

And all this Ujjwala talk is making me miss her TERRIBLY!!!...her and all the other Tom Ford gals!:lol::lol:

I wish we had more visionary designers such as Jean Paul, Tom Ford and Ricardo....Tom Ford definitely loved models of diversity in his shows, girls like Valery Prince, Ujjwala, Ai Tominaga, Liya, Mimi Roche, Oluchi....gosh it was very beatiful to see diversity in his shows. I mean, when Tom Ford was still in the business, it was possible for someone like Ai to front a Gucci fragrance campaign and be in the YSL campaign or Ujjwala to do a YSL beauty/ cosmetics campaign. Hmm I don't think we'll be seeing models that are not caucasian or black (Asian models) to be in a YSL or Gucci campaign these days...

of course on the other hand, we do have people like Cavalli who gave Du Juan a chance in the Cavalli campaign or Marc Jacobs putting her in the LV campaign but I'm assuming that's because Du Juan's buzz was pretty big back then when she debuted as an international model.

Nowadays it's up to Jean Paul to propel models like Lakshmi or Eugena Mandzhieva into the limelight.
