What von Trier films have you seen? I've seen Dogville, Manderlay, Breaking the Waves, Antichrist, The Idiots and Dancer in the Dark.

His films are shocking to say the least, but Antichrist makes the others look like Teletubbies.

haven't seen antichrist yet so i can only judge from the others and dancer in the dark would be my favourite. i agree though his films are hard-hitting but i think that's why he is so brilliant...he's not afraid to tell the story.

Watch All Loveee Dancer In The Dark Is My Favorite

I've seen most of them. Dancer in the Dark is truly one of my favourite films... the definition of harrowing. So few films are emotional on that level.

While I like that he 'pushes the boundaries', he seems a bit arrogant about it all... if there is a God, he's not it! :p

I read an interview recently where to counter his obliqueness they asked him, if he was a sandwich what kind would he be? his reply: one where you have to work hard to find the ham. touché

Lola what did you think of the Antichrist?

I will admit I have a small interest in it.

I heard that Antichrist got a tornado of controversy. Don't know if I wanna go see it. It might scar me for life.

Lars von Trier has always been there to tease and taunt but I think he's gone off the rails with Antichrist (or maybe that's what he wants you to think?) He's been suffering from depression for 2 something years prior to making Antichrist. No wonder.
What everyone's talking about is the infamous genital mutilation scene. I subconsciously crossed my legs when watching that bit.

My personal favourite of his is Breaking the Waves.

I' not a big fan of von Trier. I hate Dancer in the Dark with a passion. He created Dogma 95. :yuk:
I do like Dogville, however. Even though it's with Nicole Kidman.

haven't seen antichrist and tbh i'm a bit afraid of it so i might end up never watching it, but i've seen most of von trier's other films. i don't like any of them except dogville which i love. it has some kind of symmetry and logic that really resonate with me. i think i know it by heart.

I prefer his other films. I think I'd need to see it again, but I thought the first half was a little dull and the second half was a tornado of controversy.

i am SO EXCITED to see Antichrist. from the trailer....speaking from a cinematography point of view (i'm a cinematographer so i always take that into account first), it looks STUNNING, dark, intense, cruel..just what I expect from von Trier. Plus I love the story of a woman going slowly insane (I'm a HUGE fan of directors that do that - David Lynch/Roman Polanski/Bergman, etc). I'll be right there, front row, opening day for it. It'll be censored in the US which i'm angry about, but I still can't wait for it. The darker, the better, and this looks to be his darkest by FAR.

Dancer in the Dark was too much for me, too sad, but good, however I absoutely loved Dogville and the creativity/story of it.

I have some problems with his...well, HIS problems, especially with women, but after going through such a depression, it's expected that Antichrist will be dark and controversial.

in the end if looks like a dark, evil film, shot beautifully, which is right up my alley :D

I liked AntiChrist a lot, although in my opinion some violence went for far too long. But I liked it, It reminded me of a very grim fairy tale.

His movies are good, maybe the only one I do not like was "Dancer..." . my favourite is Dogville.

I saw antichrist yesterday and it was one of the best films I have ever seen! Certainly the best I have seen in many years anyway....It was so brutally emotional!!!!! I felt as though I had been to war afterwards but I kind of enjoy that....!

Antichrist was terribly pretentious and way over the top. i think it's his worst work yet.

I loved it-I mean, Lars is a show off and his provocation is deliberate. But who cares when the work is this good. Charlotte was amazing.

I think he's a great auteur...Dogville is probably my fave. I love seeing bigger stars work with him, it's always fascinating.
