Asian Invasion in Fashion

laura's twitter

someone needs to tell her to watch what she says and posts before she get's a bad name. sigh...

I don't think her Twitter comment was racist - but the Black-face photo she posted a while ago on Instagram definitely was.

she should know the consequences of what she's posting on the social media, others could get her wrong even though she doesn't mean to hurt anyone..

Well I am Asian and I don't find that comment offensive actually... but yes she needs to be careful about her words :ninja:

Laura tweeted:

'' I didn't mean the Asian Invasion as a bad thing. it's just funny to see how fashion changes, first Swedish, then Brazilian then Dutch''

I also don't think that she wanted to make an offensive comment.I took it that she said it as a current tendace, a trend in fashion industry.:flower:

I think she posted an image of Zwarte Piet? That's Dutch culture, and in Dutch culture that image has no racist connotation. Zwarte Piet is Sinterklaas' helper, just like Elfs are Santa's helper. (Unless of course, you think Elfs are insulting towards people with dwarfism :p )

How do you say hello where you're from?
“Hallo!”

What is your Starbucks order?
Most of the time, water and a banana because I don’t really like coffee.

What are you wearing right now?
Black leather Balenciaga pants, a black tank top, and Colbert and Ann Demeulemeester jewelry.

What are the three items you always keep in your purse?
My camera, red Chanel lipstick, and my iPhone.

How were you discovered?
An agent sent me an message after seeing my profile pic on Hyves, a social networking site in Holland.

Most memorable model moments:
Shooting a surrealism editorial for Italian Vogue with Steven Meisel and Karl Templer! And when Guido [Palau] cut my hair for the Balenciaga campaign. I was so nervous, but I love the images. Also, walking the finale at Sonia Rykiel’s fall 2012; they let me take my own camera with me on the catwalk. I took pictures of all the models and the audience.

Favorite model of all time:
Lara Stone. Her face is incredible.

If you weren’t modeling what would be your dream job?
Being a photographer. I’ve been taking pictures of everything around me since I was thirteen. I’m still photographing but not as much now, because modeling takes a lot of time. If you’re curious, you can see some of them on laurakampman.nl.

Favorite designers:
Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Givenchy. And I love jewelry by Tom Binns; his work is amazing.

What new addition to your wardrobe are you currently craving this season?
Fur, fur, fur—but only fake fur. And also leather jackets (I’d love one by Rick Owens someday) and long skirts cut on the bias (vintage Galliano).

What item in your closet do you most cherish? Why?
My black leather Balenciaga pants; they’re really cool and work well with my haircut!

What nail polish color are you warning right now?
Deep red—j’adore.

Beauty item you cannot live without:
Water!

What is the first website you visit in the morning, other than Vogue.com?
Facebook—I find it really important to stay in touch with my family and friends back home.

What songs are on repeat on your iPod right now?
“Pretty Lights” by Finally Moving, “Sweet Dreams” by Térez Montcalm, and “Please” by Selah Sue.

What are your favorite movies?
So many! A Single Man, One Day, 500 Days of Summer, Inception . . . I love watching movies.

One place you always visit while in new York?
Le Pain Quotidien!

Favorite destination you’ve traveled to so far?
The South of France. I slept in a big castle in a little village near Monaco.

Where would you like to go on your next vacation?
The Maldives, for sleeping, eating, snorkeling (with an underwater camera, of course), and dreaming all day long.

What is the best advice you’ve even been given?
Eliminate the negative and concentrate on the positive; my New York agent tells me this all the time.

What quality is most attractive in a boyfriend/girlfriend?
Intelligence, sense of humor, charm.

What quality do you most appreciate in a friend?
Honesty.

Name one talent you wish you had:
Singing. I play the piano and guitar and I always try to sing along, but it never sounds good—ha!

What are your words to live by:
“Dream like you’ll live forever; live like you’ll die today.” (James Dean)
